The Krapina-Zagorje County project 'True Zagorje Home' focuses on the development and certification of accommodation facilities that meet high quality standards.
The project started two years ago when 10 houses were certified, last year another 12, and this year 11 buildings received this prestigious certificate.
Award of quality marks 'True Zagorje Home' within the project of marking the quality of holiday homes, which is carried out by the Tourist Board of Krapina-Zagorje County in cooperation with the system of local tourist boards, was held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in the Business Technology Incubator of Krapina-Zagorje County.
The goal of the project is to encourage private renters in the Krapina-Zagorje County to diversify and raise the quality of accommodation and develop the offer and services through harmonization with the principles of sustainable development and sustainable tourism.
It is a group of standards and benchmarks that are intended to create a new basis for connecting owners of family accommodation (holiday homes), to strengthen promotion, and to increase the market recognition of holiday homes that are part of the destination's tourist offer.
It is important to adapt, the prefect points out Željko Kolar, a constantly changing market. "It is necessary to adapt to the new requirements of clients and tourists in order for the offer in Zagorje to remain competitive, which is why a certificate of excellence, regional recognition and specificity is important because the destination is chosen accordingly. By awarding the label today, you have not only done something for yourself, but also for the entire destination. It is crucial in the whole story", the prefect emphasized and invited the renters to apply for the county competition for next year, for which 80.000 euros of grants have been provided.

"Dedication and kindness towards the guest is also important, so that he feels that you really take care of him, that you have dedicated yourself to him and that he conveys this to others. When people wanted to rest and did not want to go to hotels where a large number of people gather, private accommodation gained importance. And in fact, some people only then discovered the quality of private accommodation and that in some segments, private landlords are more accessible and interesting than classic hotels. And this is the result that out of over 400 thousand overnight stays, which we have now, 100 thousand of them were made precisely in these categories, this is an exceptional result and five years ago it was unimaginable. With the fact that of the 155 houses we have registered, only 33 with today's allocations have a certificate. This means that there is definitely room for others to get involved in this", said Prefect Kolar, adding that the Krapina-Zagorje County has a fantastic offer and there is always room for improvement.
Head of the Krapina-Zagorje County Tourist Board Office Sanja Škrinjar she emphasized her satisfaction with the number of overnight stays. "Until ten years ago, we had the most guests in hotel accommodation, private accommodation had very little accommodation capacity, and this year we have achieved 403.372 overnight stays, of which over 100 thousand overnight stays were achieved in holiday homes and apartments.", said Škrinjar.

She believes that the competition criteria are high, and through the program the financing of photography, a short video film, a joint video for newly certified producers, and a new catalog with a total of 33 houses and the "True Zagorje Home" website was updated.
10 houses were certified in the first year of the project, 12 in the second, and 11 this year. Certification is carried out once a year and in 2024. continued with the third round of certification, all the more so since the number of categorized vacation homes with a minimum of 3 stars, i.e. rural vacation homes with 3 suns, has increased significantly.
Currently, over 150 vacation homes are registered in the Krapina-Zagorje County, and this number continues to increase.

Matilda Juričev Žigman, the owner of the Zagorska bajka holiday home, spoke on behalf of the awardees and said that everyone can promise that they will not stop now, but expand the offer.
