"Dalmatian honey" has received a European protected label of authenticity, the European Commission announced. This product name was entered in the register of geographical indications for agricultural products and is protected throughout the European Union.
The EU sign of the protected mark of origin, which is on the packaging, guarantees the purchase to the consumer authentic product, announced the Ministry of Agriculture.
The procedure for protecting the name 'Dalmatian honey' was initiated by the Association of Dalmatian Beekeepers, which submitted a request to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the protection of the mark of origin.
'Dalmatian honey' is the honey produced by bee colonies of gray bees from the nectar of sage, bramble, heather, mandarin, and from honeydew that appears on the honeydew and other white-leaved species that grow in Dalmatia.

The diverse floristic composition of this part of Croatia, as well as relief and climatic factors, as well as the long-standing beekeeping tradition, have contributed to the rich beekeeping experience and knowledge and skills associated with the optimal use of pasture resources, whose vegetation enables the production of various types of exceptional quality 'Dalmatian honey'.
The botanical uniqueness of this area is reflected in the specific profile of the pollen spectrum, as well as the sensory properties of 'Dalmatian honey', and the method of production is closely related to the skills of local beekeepers, which are the result of many years of experience and tradition through several generations.
Therefore, the high level of beekeeping skills, combined with the unique characteristics of the defined geographical area, enables the production of honey with specific characteristics.
