Italy's multi-party coalition government has agreed to abolish private beaches by January 2024, but this reform has upset many.

Every summer, millions of Italians flock to the beaches that dot the coast of the peninsula, as well as the thousands of privately run swimming clubs that are the mainstays of Italian vacations. And currently these 'lidos', as they are called locally - or beach clubs - besides bathers, also occupy Roman parliamentarians and environmental activists, because the government has announced the opening of concessions for the Italian sea coast.
