Madeira introduces a charge for walking on over 30 hiking trails

The collected income will finance nature conservation.

Madiera is introducing a fee for non-residents on some of its most popular hiking trails, one of the moves towards a more sustainable tourism model for Portugal. The Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation (ICNF) manages over 30 routes on which tolling will begin.
