Plitvice Lakes National Park solemnly celebrated the 75th anniversary of its establishment and 45 years since it entered the UNESCO world natural heritage list. On this occasion, a new viewpoint was officially opened - Tomić's look.

It is an impressive viewpoint on the Stubica hill that offers an unforgettable panoramic view of the Upper Lakes and the surrounding peaks.

The goal of its construction is to relieve the main paths along the Upper Lakes and to direct guests to the quiet promenades above the lake, allowing them to fully experience the beauty of the park.

"In order to relieve the existing trails in Plitvička jezera National Park, we opened a new viewpoint as a new perspective from where you can see five lakes. The viewpoint is located at 685 meters above sea level and I think this will become a new must-see spot on Plitvice", he pointed out Tomislav Kovačević, director of Plitvice Lakes National Park, and announced the reconstruction of two hotels into high-class facilities.

The new Tomićevo viewpoint looked offers an impressive view of five lakes - Prošćansko, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Veliko, Batinovac and Gradinsko jezero.

"There will soon be another tender for the Hotel Bellevue and the Hotel Plitvice, and I expect that the tenders will be completed by the end of the year and that we will start the reconstruction of the two hotels. This will certainly raise the standard of service provision on the Plitvice Lakes and that is what our guests expect from us. Both hotels will be of a high category, Hotel Plitvice will have a 5-star classification, and Hotel Bellevue 4+", concluded Kovačević.

Plitvička Jezera National Park became the first national park in Croatia this year with the Green Destinations certificate for sustainability and was also awarded the prestigious Green Destinations silver award for sustainability.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development congratulated the hosts on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the national park and 45 years since it entered the UNESCO world natural heritage list. Damir Habijan.

"The main task of the national park is to protect nature, and on the other hand, precisely because of this nature, it is also a magnet for tourists. It's a balance and I think that the Plitvice Lakes National Park actually showed that they succeeded in that with the award they received last year", said Habijan.

He added how the project is worth 116 thousand euros and is an excellent infrastructure project, not only because of the wonderful view, but also because it supports what is constantly being talked about, which is the sustainability of tourism.

"It will attract tourists who follow well-trodden, well-known paths here and will provide them with this wonderful view and ensure the balance we are talking about. Therefore, I congratulate the director and his professional services, I also congratulate the administration within the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development for really taking great care of national parks and nature parks", concluded the minister.

The viewpoint will surely become a new landmark for the park. The context of the redistribution of tourists and the reduction of the load on the entire infrastructure is especially important because it focuses on the less visited Upper Lakes - although for many the most beautiful part of the National Park.
