The city of Krk hosts the International Conference for European Cultural Tourism

The new momentum of European tourism with cultural heritage and digitization is the topic of the conference that will be held in the city of Krk from October 19 to 22.

This year's 15th International Conference for Cultural Tourism in Europe (International Conference for Cultural Tourism in Europe), which was previously held in cities such as London, Athens, Barcelona or Granada, between October 19 and 22, will take place in the city of Krk, on the topic: Relaunching European Tourism through Cultural Heritage and Digitalisation.

This significant event is organized under the auspices of European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) with the possibility that during the multi-day session all cities participating in the conference present their most recent projects, achievements and efforts related to the sphere of (sustainable) cultural tourism. Therefore, this Conference, as well as membership in the European Network of Cultural Tourism, should bring many benefits to all member cities, including Krk, related to its visibility on the map of prestigious cultural destinations, as well as the possibility of applying for tenders of funds within the program that cultural tourism is (co)financed.

The conference program starts October 19th, at 18.00:XNUMX p.m., with a ceremonial opening in the Great Hall of the City of Krk, which will be moderated by the Secretary-General of the European Network of Cultural Tourism, Manos Vougioukas. It is planned that the following will address the audience, among others: the President of the European Network of Cultural Tourism Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, the mayor of Krk Darijo Vasilić and representative of the Faculty of Management in Tourism and Hospitality, University of Rijeka, prof. Zrinka Zadel, while the central presentation on the topic The importance of cultural heritage in the new momentum of sustainable tourism (The importance of Cultural Heritage in Relaunching Sustainable Tourism) will be held by an honorary member of the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN Honorary member). The next day, October 20th, between 09.00:18.00 a.m. and 2020:2020 p.m., in the Great and Small Town Halls of the City of Krk and in the interior of Volsonis, there will be thematic sessions in which Conference participants - representatives of numerous institutions, institutions and associations and experts from various fields - will discuss trends, practices, methods, concepts and results of successful cultural and tourism projects and initiatives. The four aforementioned sessions will be divided into the following thematic units: Impactour Horizon 2020 Project, Cooperation between museums and heritage sites, Medieval Heritage and Archaeology, SmartCulTour Project Horizon 2020 (SmartCulTour Horizon 2020 Project), European Year of Youth, ReInHerit Horizon 2020 Project (ReInHerit Horizon XNUMX Project), Digitization - Smart Tourism Destinations and Transnational Thematic Tourism Products Tourism Products).

In the context of each of these units, several expert lectures, discussions and panels will be held, among which, if we look at the local contents, Krk archaeologist Matija Makarun (Archeo Kvarner doo) to present the topic Urbanism of Krka - recent archaeological discoveries (On the urbanism of Krk - recent archaeological findings), and director of the Tourist Board of Kvarner Irena Persic Zivadinov theme Kvarner's maritime heritage (Kvarner Maritime Heritage). On the same day, starting at 20.30:XNUMX p.m., the Maritim Hotel in Krk will reward this year's best sustainable cultural tourism destinations. These are awards given by the European Network of Cultural Tourism in partnership with the international association Europa Nostra, the European Travel Commission and the Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism (NECSTouR).

The remaining two plenary sessions are in order October 21th, starting at 09.30:XNUMX a.m., during which two topics will be discussed: European Cultural Tourism Network - related projects and initiatives (ECTN and related projects and initiatives), which will be moderated by the vice-president of the European Cultural Tourism Network, Simina Mane, and Sinergia, conclusions and the way forward for the post-pandemic tourism momentum with cultural heritage and digitalisation (Synergies, Conclusions and the Way Forward for the post-pandemic Relaunching of Tourism through Cultural Heritage and Digitalisation), whose moderation was entrusted to the former president of the European Network of Cultural Tourism Raitis Sijats.

Conference ends on October 22, with the participants' study trip to Rijeka, the European Capital of Culture 2020/2021, where they will visit the Museum of the City of Rijeka and the Trsat Castle.
