Educational workshops for young people focused on sustainable tourism and climate change adaptation were held at the Velika Gorica Visitor Center on February 5th and 6th. The workshops brought together experts from various sectors, who, through the exchange of experiences and examples of good practice, brought young people closer to key challenges and solutions in the context of sustainable tourism development.

On the first day, students from Velika Gorica High School participated in a workshop dedicated to climate challenges and possible solutions brought by the EU project KNOWING, whose partner is the Zagreb County Tourist Board. Exceptional contribution and support was provided by Lidija Capković Martinek (Zagreb International Airport) and Denis Havlik (Austrian Institute of Technology) as well as the director of the Velika Gorica Tourist Board.

On the second day, students from Zagreb's Katarina Zrinski Private High School, as part of the "Practice Company" course, explored how the tourism sector is responding to sustainability challenges through dynamic presentations and discussions. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the work of Zagreb International Airport, the Velika Gorica Tourist Board, and the Zagreb County Tourist Board.

These meetings have shown that young people are extremely interested in topics that shape our future. The KNOWING project provides them with the opportunity to gain new knowledge about sustainable tourism and climate change adaptation.

"The support and cooperation of Zagreb International Airport are always the priority of our joint work, because the International Airport is a platform for the development of continental tourism, not only in Zagreb County, but also in the rest of the Republic of Croatia, since we are the first airport by the number of arrivals in 2024", emphasized the head of corporate and internal communications at Zagreb International Airport, Lidia Capkovic Martinek.

"This event was an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about the beauty and significance of our cultural heritage, while at the same time providing a platform for active participation in the promotion of local tourism", emphasized the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Velika Gorica, Maja Toth.

"Young people are the foundation of the future, and through education and experiences like this event, we encourage them to recognize and nurture the richness of our destination - its culture, tradition and authenticity. Through partnership in the EU project KNOWING, we contribute to sustainable development, open space for new ideas and build a resilient and innovative community. Our vision remains clear - we create the best continental destination in Croatia, together with young people on whom the world rests", said the director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, Ivana Alilović.
