One of the key factors in the success and development of any tourist-oriented country, including Croatia, is undoubtedly safety - and this is often what tourists consider the advantage of a destination, said the Primorsko-Goran County prefect at the conference 'Safety in Tourist Destinations' held today. Zlatko Komadina.
"Croatia is a safe destination, we want it to remain so, aware of all the challenges brought by the global political and security situation, the war conflict on European soil, population migrations, but also the destination's ability to accept a many times greater number of 'temporary residents' during the peak tourist season", he emphasized.
The scientific and professional conference 'Security in tourist destinations' was organized with the aim of preparing activities and measures of the highest possible quality to jointly improve the safety of guests staying in the destination.

The organizer was the Tourist Board of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in cooperation with the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Department, and the meeting took place in Opatija.
The conference gathered representatives from the sector of public institutions that directly or indirectly influence the implementation of activities that contribute to security. It was intended for the public and private sector, but also for the local population.
Several lectures and two panels were held during which safety as a crucial element when choosing a holiday destination, challenges and factors affecting safety, the importance of joint cooperation and other topics related to tourism and safety were discussed.
"The safety of our guests in the destination is one of the priorities of the entire county tourism sector, that's why joint cooperation is crucial. In the "peak" of the main tourist season in the region, the number of people sometimes increases by more than five times, which represents a great burden on emergency, professional and local services and infrastructure", said the director of the county tourist board Irena Persic Zivadinov.

She added that guest safety is "an invaluable part of the travel experience and a key factor in the sustainability and prosperity of tourist destinations" because guests who feel safe and protected are happy to return. In addition, their recommendations are very important, as they affect the image of the destination and, ultimately, a better economic result.
"For the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, as one of the most developed tourist regions in the Republic of Croatia, an important safety factor is a well-established and organized system of civil protection, which includes all services responsible for all forms of security for our citizens, including tourists, and who demonstrate practically every day its effectiveness", concluded the prefect of Komadina.
