At the Vlačica swimming pool in Supetar, the sculpture Noble periska by the academic sculptor Dragoslav Dragičević was installed.
noble periska (lat. Pinna nobilis) is the largest Mediterranean bivalve inhabiting the Adriatic Sea at depths of 2 to 30 meters. It can reach a length of up to 120 centimeters, and has the role of filtering the sea. Its shells are the habitat of numerous other marine species and this makes it an important part of the ecosystem.
Unfortunately, this species faces critical threat throughout the Mediterranean. Despite being strictly protected, there is currently no effective method to prevent their extinction and stop the spread of the infection that affects them. Their survival has become a serious environmental issue and requires urgent research and conservation efforts to prevent further decline in their populations.
Placing a sculpture of a noble feather made of white stone from Brac along the coast is an excellent way to raise awareness of the endangered species.
