Despite intensive efforts and negotiations with several market participants of the insolvent tour operator FTI, no satisfactory solution was found to take over the remaining already booked arrangements. FTI Touristik GmbH therefore immediately cancels all trips with departure dates from Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Following the appropriate decision by the creditors' committee on Friday afternoon, the company began notifying affected customers and FTI's service partners, such as travel agencies and hoteliers, of the layoffs. They affect all package arrangements and certain individual services booked by customers for departures from July 6, 2024 onwards through the insolvent companies FTI Touristik GmbH and BigXtra Touristik GmbH as well as through the 5vorFlug brand.

"In close cooperation with FTI and the German Travel Guarantee Fund (DRSF), over the past ten days we have worked intensively to find a good solution in the interest of FTI's clients and partners. We did everything to create package arrangements that after all, DRSF would be willing to settle existing claims for refunds in cooperation with one or more competitors, we have not been able to find such a solution despite the great efforts of all involved", said the temporary receiver Axel Bierbach.

"In intensive negotiations with various competitors, we initially saw promising solutions. In the short time available, however, we were unable to achieve a convincing result for the takeover of package deals booked with FTI and BigXtra. In order to finally give users the necessary planning certainty before the start of the summer holidays and allow them to immediately rebook their trip with another provider, the decision had to be made to cancel all remaining trips. With the cancellation of all package arrangements, FTI's travel agency partners now also have the opportunity to offer their clients alternatives."

Crucially, the German Travel Security Fund will return all deposits already paid and all advance payments made by package travelers, so no package traveler should fear that they will not get their money back. Customers who booked individual services such as flights, hotels and transfers through FTI, on the other hand, are not entitled to a refund of payments already made by DRSF.

In total, FTI will now cancel about 175.000 booked package deals.

According to the provisional receiver, liability for FTI employees also played a large role in the decision to cancel all trips still booked. "One of the primary goals of temporary bankruptcy proceedings is to maintain business as much as possible, secure assets and thus create the best prospects for employees to continue business.Bierbach explained.
