The tourist board of the city of Poreč in cooperation with Poreč cycling club and this year organizes a bicycle race for its citizens and visitors "May Day Recreational Parenzana".
Parenzana, once a popular narrow-gauge railway that meandered between Trieste and Poreč, was primarily used for transporting wine. Today, it is an attractive pedestrian and bicycle path interspersed with numerous tunnels and viaducts that leave cyclists and walkers breathless. Parenzana is one of the most popular trails in Istria, and with its 78 kilometers from Plovania to Poreč, it passes through beautiful landscapes and vistas, medieval towns such as Buje, Grožnjan, Oprtlje, Motovun and Vižinada, rest areas, olive groves and vineyards.
The "May Day Recreational Parenzana", a traditional pre-season sports event, was announced today at a press conference by the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Poreč, Nenad Velenik, and the representative of the Poreč Cycling Club, Denis Terlević.
Recreational Parenzana will be held on Saturday, June 29.4.2023, XNUMX year with the beginning at 10,00:XNUMX p.m. in Baredine. There will be two routes on offer, a longer route of 26 kilometers for more experienced drivers and a shorter route suitable for families with children, with a length of 13 kilometers. The expected duration of the longer tour is about 3 hours, while the shorter one is 1,5 - 2 hours.
"For all participants, the Tourist Board of the city of Poreč will provide a free lunch in Baredine after the bike ride, as well as a tour of the tractor pit and museum accompanied by an expert guide. The band Baredinesaurusi will ensure the fun part and good mood", he announced Nenad Velenik, director of the Tourist Board of the city of Poreč.
"They will drive local trails, i.e. forest paths and partly on uneven terrain, and a MTB bike is required for participation. It is definitely recommended to wear a helmet as well as a spare inner tube. For children under 15, a helmet is mandatory. The minimum age of participants is 7 years. All children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult", He said Denis Terlevic, representative of BK Poreč.

In addition to the people of Poreč, guests from Slovenia, Austria and Italy are expected to participate in the cycling event. As for accommodation, all hotels, apartment complexes and campsites will be open.
