Around.Us - a new travel application redefines the way to explore destinations

In the 7 months since launch, 12 million locations have been listed and over 750.000 downloads have been made.

The Around.Us app guides users' searches through an interactive map, displaying the top 10 points of interest near the user's location - around the world.

Various options are available to explore these popular places, such as geolocation, searching by location or using keywords. Around.Us always offers a list 10 closest ones main points of interest, focusing on the most essential.

"The idea came to me during my stay in Carnac, in Brittany. I wanted to show my children the dolmen. When I typed that word into Google, I got 15 pancake houses as a result. As for Google Maps, it gave me a list of megalithic tombs, but it was impossible to find out which one was the most interesting.", describes the creator of the application Jean-François Pillou.

Ease of use

Pillou is also the founder of the website CommentCaMarche and director of CCM Benchmark, Journal Du Net and Linternaute (Figaro Group). His goal when creating the application was to offer new perspectives and ease of discovery to all passengers.

In addition to the must-see attractions, this app reveals many lesser-known monuments and places. From their own 16.000 filters everyone can get involved in discovering local heritage, nature or forgotten monuments - from fountains to railway stations to museums, haunted houses, suspension bridges, extraordinary trees or public gardens.

Locating these attractions can be enjoyed by curious explorers around the world. Around.Us offers 300.000 seats including 3000 US "heritage markers" selected and ranked according to their popularity on a scale of one to five.

This ensures visitors don't miss the main sights and also sparks interest in the more secret ones.

A true tourist guide

The enriched content of the application allows users to use it as a real tourist guide.

When the user clicks on the bubble or box of a place of interest, they discover a detailed description: history, anecdotes, practical information, exact location and a link to the website. Synthesized through an algorithm, the information is updated daily.
