As part of the Bike in the heart of Zagorje project, a cycling camp for professional cyclists was organized

In Sveti Križ Začretje, a cycling camp in Hrvatska zagorje is presented, which will bring together the best professional cyclists from Slovenia.

Within the project By bike in the heart of Zagorje, this camp will be used for preparation and training and will have everything you need for active cycling in one place. 

The Tourist Board of the Srce Zagorje region launched last year activities that bring them together Slovenia and Croatia as a destination where cycling-oriented tourists will visit the Krapina-Zagorje County, but also Slovenia.

With that, cooperation was signed with the Rog Cycling Association, member team Ljubljana Gusto Santic, in order to start project activities. 

The first of them is the organization of a cycling camp in Sveti Križ Začretje, where six cyclists are currently participating.

"We have been working on the development of bicycle paths for a long time, and we have the conditions for this type of tourism, but the conditions provided by nature are not sufficient in themselves, it is extremely important that you have infrastructure and accompanying facilities. We have made a huge step forward in terms of accompanying content, but we are trotting behind a certain infrastructure", said the prefect Željko Kolar announcing increased investments by the Krapina-Zagorje County in this area. 

"Observing what was happening in Slovenia through the first financial envelope that was available to us, there was already a clear direction and a clear development strategy where an enormous amount was invested in bicycle paths, probably more for tourist purposes than for professional cycling. But the whole climate that was created led to the fact that today Slovenia is so strong in cycling as a sport. I believe that we can transfer the Slovenian example to Zagorje as well", ordered is the prefect.

Together with the Croatian Tourist Board, the Krapina-Zagorje County invested 17 euros in projects for the construction of 258.000 bicycle paths.

As the head of the office of the County Tourist Board, Sanja Škrinjar, points out, the goal is to put active tourism at the very top of the offer, which is why the outdoor potential of this area has started to be more actively branded in recent years.

Cyclists from the club participate in the cycling camp Ljubljana Gusto Santic: four-time champion of Croatia Viktor Potočki from Andraševac and Ian Peran from Rabljan and cyclists from Slovenia Domen Oblak, Mihael Štajnar and Gašper Kokalj, as well as Australian Dylan Roy Hopkins. 

They will during five-day camp hold training sessions in the Krapina-Zagorje County, familiarize yourself with the offer for cyclists, the gastronomic offer of the county, but also shoot promotional materials, films and photos, which will later serve as a promotion of both destinations and strengthen the tourist offer.
