FIJET is the oldest and largest professional association of travel journalists and writers about tourism
Federation internationale des journalistes et ecrivains du turisme (FIJET) was founded in Paris in 1954 by travel journalists from France, Belgium and Luxembourg. It was the time after the Second World War, which tortured and crippled Europe in every way, materially and humanly. Europe was divided into blocs, East and West were created, not only geographically. Prejudices and political stigmatizations were created.
It was a time when trips, especially those for pleasure and rest, were rare. At that time, the journalists of the French-speaking area started the media "machinery" with the aim of tearing down ideological borders, despite the blocs, considering that tourism does not recognize divisions and "walls".
They promoted tourist trips for the sake of peace and friendship, but also the fastest economic reconstruction of war-impoverished countries. The ideas and goals of FIJET met with great approval from fellow journalists throughout Europe, and soon in both Americas.
This is how fellow journalists encouraged the development of tourism and tourism journalism as a media promoter of countries and destinations.
