In 2023, the city authorities increased the fee to 2,75 euros, and the second increase took place on April 1, 2024. The fee increased by 50 cents and now amounts to 3,25 euros. The fee applies to visitors staying in official tourist accommodation.
The city council said the proceeds would be used to fund infrastructure, including improvements to roads, bus services and escalators. The city budget is expected to increase by up to 100 million euros.
An average of 32 million people visit Barcelona annually, and the daily tourist tax was first introduced in 2012, since when visitors to the Catalan capital have to pay an additional city fee in addition to the regional tourist tax.
