20.000 guests by rail to Dalmatia this year: The first Euronight train arrived from Bratislava to Split

The line will operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday towards Split.

Today, the first train arrived in Split from Bratislava (Slovakia). EuroNight, which will operate until October 05 this year towards Split.

It is a line of the Slovak Railways (ZSSK) in cooperation with Austrian railways ÖBB, which runs from Bratislava to Split via Vienna (Austria), announced the Tourist Board of the Split-Dalmatia County

Today, the president of the representative office and the general director of the Slovak Railways (ZSSK) arrived in Split on the inaugural train. Peter Helex along with other representatives of ZSSK and the director of the representative office of the Croatian Tourist Board for the Czech Republic and Slovakia Miodrag Mlačić.

 "The Split-Dalmatia County has been a favorite destination for guests from Slovakia for years, who visit us in large numbers every year. We are extremely happy that Slovak Railways and ÖBB have recognized this interest in our region, and we are confident that this new connection will be key to the further improvement of our tourism results in the two extremely important markets of Slovakia and Austria. The establishment of this line only confirms their love and attachment to Dalmatia. This line has additional importance considering that it will operate for a period of six months, providing us with an opportunity to achieve even better results outside the summer season. With the hope of successful cooperation with our partners from Slovak Railways and ÖBB, we look forward to the positive impact of this new connection on our local economy and tourism industry." said the director of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board Ivana Vladović on the occasion of the arrival of the first train from Bratislava.

The line will run every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday to Split, and return to Bratislava every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. During this season, it is expected that this line will arrive in Split from Slovakia more than 20.000 guests.

Interestingly, in addition to passengers, passengers can also transport their own passengers from Vienna on this line cars and motorcycles.

"The Slovak market is one of the most important broadcast markets for us, from which we achieved a record 2023 arrivals and 520.000 million overnight stays in 3,3. In the current part of the tourist year for the first 4 months, 20.000 arrivals and 75.000 overnight stays were achieved, which is 7% more compared to the same period last year. Split-Dalmatia County is a favorite of Slovaks, and last year they had 800.000 overnight stays. The possibility of arriving by train certainly contributed to this excellent result. This year, too, the train will run three times a week from May 03 to October 05, and Slovak Railways informs us that they expect even more passengers to be transported this year, as well as cars and motorcycles.", said the director of the representative office of the Croatian Tourist Board for the Czech Republic and Slovakia Miodrag Mlačić.

Slovakia's market is among the top ten countries, i.e. in the ninth place in terms of the number of overnight stays in Croatia.

The largest number of overnight stays is realized in Split-Dalmatia County (25% of overnight stays by Slovak tourists, or about 800.000 in 2023). These are guests who, in addition to "sun and sea", are most interested in nature, gastronomy and exploring the destination.

Guests from Slovakia spend an average of €141,5 per day in Croatia, and according to data from the Croatian National Bank, about 211 million euros in revenue during 2023.
