After the meeting of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Finance and the representatives of the National Association of Caterers on measures to assist the tourism sector, on Saturday, January 30 tax administration has published an amended instruction under which undertaking applicants will be reimbursed for fixed costs before paying the invoices received, which they must do within eight days of the receipt of the reimbursement.

In addition to subsidies for the preservation of jobs, it is extremely important for a large part of caterers to cover all or part of fixed costs, such as renting space, reserves, electricity, water, gas, municipal waste costs.

So it was agreed at the meeting that all entrepreneurs are reimbursed for fixed costs which by the Decision of the Civil Protection Headquarters on 8 January extended measure of suspension of work, which in January this year recorded a decline in revenues and receipts of at least 60 percent compared to January 2020. In addition to them, the right to compensation of fixed costs is also exercised by all entrepreneurs who started working last year, and who in January this year recorded a decrease of at least 60 percent compared to November 2020.

"In addition to measures to preserve jobs, compensation for fixed costs of caterers, which can rise to tens of thousands of kunas per month, is crucial for the economic survival of a large number of people, which is why this agreement is extremely important.", Said the Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac.

Jelena Tabak, president of the National Association of Caterers, pointed out: "We are grateful for this particular shift that will certainly help more caterers than was the case in December. We continue to emphasize the importance of horizontally applying the criteria of how it will be possible to work when measures are relaxed. A marathon section for recovery from the Covid crisis awaits caterers and line ministries, and mutual cooperation is a precondition for a good start."

In addition to the already mentioned fixed costs, the novelty is that they include the monthly cost of software for fiscalization. A small step forward, but which should have come much earlier, and certainly not enough to save the entire sector.
