In the Vukovar City Museum, an education on sustainable management in tourism was held under the name "Destinations and sustainability - where are we, where do we want to be?".
The education attracted more than 60 stakeholders in tourism, who discussed the importance of sustainable tourism as a key factor for the development of destinations, and the organizer of this event was the Tourist Board of Vukovar-Srijem County.
As part of this educational event, the lecturers emphasized the importance of the balance between tourism development and the preservation of the identity of the place, and presented concrete examples of sustainable practices that can be applied at all levels of tourism development.
The participants of the training were presented i Green Destinations destination and stakeholder certification programs, as globally recognized tools when we talk about the valorization of sustainability and monitoring the progress of the development of sustainable tourism in our environment, given that the Tourist Board of Vukovar-Srijem County has started the process of destination certification according to the Green Destinations model.
"I am very glad that there is an interest of such a large number of stakeholders in education, especially in the context of further, sustainable development of tourism and tourist activities in Srijem and Slavonia. I believe that this exchange of knowledge, opinions and examples from practice was inspiring for all of us who deal with destination management. It is our responsibility to develop tourism and business in general in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, in order to provide future generations with at least a slightly better quality of life.", she pointed out Majda Jakša, Director of the Tourist Board of Vukovar-Srijem County.
This educational event represents a step forward for the Vukovar-Srijem County in raising awareness of the need for responsible tourism management and the importance of the cooperation of all stakeholders in order to ensure the sustainable development of tourist destinations at the local level.
