FITUR 2024: International Tourism Fair as a platform for innovation, sustainability and cooperation

At the first major tourism event in 2024, the UNWTO will emphasize encouraging investment opportunities and strengthening international partnerships.

With Ecuador as an official partner country, the FITUR International Tourism Fair that takes place in Madrid from January 23 to 26, will once again serve as a platform for global tourism innovation and collaboration.

Accent will be on the following topics:

  • Investment: UNWTO will host key investment forums, including the 'Invest in Zambia' event and, in collaboration with the Investment Bank for Latin America (CAF), will officially launch its 'Investment Guidelines for Ecuador', highlighting tourism investment prospects in these countries.
  • Sustainable development and climate measures: The Tourism and Sustainability Committee will address sustainability challenges in the tourism sector. The UNWTO will host a meeting of the signatories of the Glasgow Declaration, highlighting their shared commitment to addressing climate challenges in the tourism sector.
  • Coordination and cooperation: The UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, will hold numerous bilateral meetings with tourism ministers from all world regions to encourage cooperation and strengthen partnerships to promote sustainable tourism development.

UNWTO's annual presence at FITUR underscores its commitment to the initiative positive changes within the sector. The organization remains committed to fostering sustainable practices, encouraging responsible investment and facilitating global partnerships. 

UNWTO therefore invites all interested parties, industry experts and the public to join the dialogue at FITUR 2024.

Founded in 1981, FITUR is the leading international tourism fair. Its seat is IFEMA - Feria de Madrid. The event provides a global platform for networking tourism professionals from 165 countries and regions. 

It exhibits its products and services at the fair more than 750 companies from all over the world, and the total number of exhibitors exceeds 9600. In order to be informed about novelties, the fair visits around 245.000 visitors, of which almost 136.000 professionals.

FITUR is internationally known for its top conferences, congresses, forums and awards. The media also play a vital role, with more than 7500 journalists from around the world covering the latest topics, industry announcements and top trends.

It was agreed in advance 7000 business meetings which confirms the importance of the event for the Ibero-American market.

The last two days of FITUR are traditionally open to the public.
