Flix SE, the global passenger transport service provider, today announced record figures to mark the 10th anniversary of FlixBus.

With global revenue in excess of €1,5 billion and EBITDA profitable operations, 2022 was the most successful year in Flix's history with a 185% increase in revenue compared to 2021. In that year, more than 60 million passengers, across 40 countries of the world, used the services of FlixBus, FlixTrain, Greyhound in North America and Kamil Koç in Turkey. Since the beginning of the company, almost 300 million passengers have traveled with Flix.

"2022 is our most successful year so far. The numbers show us how Flix has positioned itself stronger than ever in a very attractive growing market environment - we stand for modern mobility, sustainability and digitalization", he said André Schwammlein, Flix co-founder and CEO.

The company expects an increase in revenue of at least 20% in 2023 and plans to continue investing in the expansion of FlixBus and FlixTrain services, and sustainable travel remains the core of the growth strategy.

Despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic in many countries during the first quarter of 2022, even more than 60 million passengers used the transport service of Flix bus partners. Flix is currently present in more than 40 countries on 4 continents.

"All our markets have recovered after the pandemic. We continue to strengthen our position in existing markets, while at the same time expanding the network of lines across some new countries to enable easy travel for as many passengers as possible", added Schwämmlein.

European market

Flix transports through 35 European countries and connects almost 3.000 destinations across Europe. While the position of FlixBus is strengthening in its home countries such as Germany, France, Italy or Poland, the offer is also expanding in new countries such as Portugal, Great Britain and the Baltic countries. Meanwhile, FlixTrain continues to be one of the most preferred modes of transport in Germany and Sweden, and in 2022 more than 38 million passengers traveled on FlixTrain.

1.2 million passengers were transported in Croatia in the period from April to September on national and international routes. Such a significant number of passengers marked a record second and third quarter in Croatia as well, surpassing 2019 as well.

"Passengers have undoubtedly returned to the sustainable, economically and environmentally friendly Flix buses... This figure is an indicator of how demand has increased significantly compared to last year. This only confirms our passengers' need for mobility, whether for business or tourist needs. for this reason, it is important to approach the opening of the Croatian market seriously and without further delays and to ensure smooth traffic connections within Croatia, and then also to other European countries. Croatian citizens, like all other travelers, have the same right to use sustainable and affordable mobility offered to residents of the rest of the European Union", he said Ante Grbeša, director of the CEE South region

American market

With FlixBus and Flix Greyhound, business synergy was achieved, a stronger network of bus lines was achieved, and the user experience in bus travel was improved. As of January 18, 2023, passengers can access a network of routes with nearly 2.300 destinations across the US, Canada and Mexico. Last year, more than 8 million passengers traveled with FlixBus and Greyhound in North America.

Flix started operations in Brazil in December 2021, and 33 destinations are available to passengers.

All markets in Europe, North America and Turkey will grow significantly in 2023 compared to 2022. At the same time, Flix will focus on group-wide profitability. A new market in Chile is also expected to open this year. After Brazil, where operations began in December 2021 with 25 destinations, Chile will be the second FlixBus market in South America, and the 41st country of the Flix global network.

Turkish market

Since 2019, Turkey's Kamil Koç has been part of Flix and connects more than 300 destinations, while last year alone more than 13 million passengers traveled with Kamil Koç, making Turkey one of the largest and most important markets. Flix's ambition is to strengthen its leadership in the market in Turkey and further improve the offer of bus transportation to regions that have not been in the network of lines throughout history.
