The Tourist Board of the city of Vodnjan presented the first Vodnjan comic - Vodnjan stories.

Namely, it is a collection of selected stories, legends and oral traditions from Vodnjan, Galižana and Peroj. The idea for this project was born in 2019 with the desire to present to a wider audience, especially visitors and tourists, in an interesting and original way stories and legends from the area of Vodnjan.

The project was initiated and developed by the Tourist Board of the city of Vodnjan in cooperation with domestic and internationally renowned cartoonists and illustrators. In addition to the comics, the whole story is digitized, ie using augmented reality (AR) using the TaleUp application that monitors the characters in real locations in Vodnjan.

“We came up with the idea of doing comics because we wanted our many legends and stories that we have in Vodnjaština to show our visitors without some scanty text that perhaps no one will notice exists. So we decided to make a comic. We contacted Vjeran Juhas, a passionate comic book fan, and so we started collaborating. As artists come from several countries, we have also achieved international collaboration on this comic. Everyone liked the idea, they accepted the challenge and that's how the comic -Vodnjan Stories was created. ” points out the director of the Tourist Board of Vodnjan, Morena Smoljan.

"Vodnjan Stories" contains a total of six stories and legends, one of which is from Peroj, one from Galižana and four from Vodnjan, and the comic has been translated into foreign languages, Italian, German and English.

He prepared scripts based on selected stories and legends Faithful Juhas, who was also the coordinator between the author and the Tourist Board, while the authors of the comics: Fran Strukan (Fig tree top), Vili Paoletić (Narrow street), Enis Čišić (Piles from the piano), Vodnjanski bumbari (Aleksa Gajić), Vjeran Juhas (Perojski pop) and Vibor Juhas (Vodnjan bell tower).

Otokar Crnalić from the company "360 Provideo" presented to the visitors the former Vodnjan castle in 3d model. The castle was located on today's Narodni trg. Visitors were able to walk around the virtual castle and peek inside.

"For starters, we have six stories and legends, and the plan is to continue to spread the comic. From our side it becomes an idea to continue, and now we will see how the audience will accept this comic. I believe we will continue with this project", Concludes Smoljan.

So, the comic is in printed and digital form, and there is an application that works so that people who are in Vodnjan, turn on the application and when you get to the actual location, one of the characters from the comic shows and gets a new narrative. It can even be photographed with a character from the comic, and of course the entire comic can be viewed via the app.

The comic in digital form can be read on the website Tourist boards of the city of Vodnjan, and in printed form in the Tourist Board of the city of Vodnjan and virtually using the TeleUp application.

Interesting storytelling and interpretation, right? Bravo Vodnjan.
