There are two main theories about the origin of the word spa. The first says that the word "Spa" is an acronym of the Latin phrase "Salus per Aquam"”Which means“ health from water ”while another says that the word“ Spa ”originated according to the Belgian village of Spa in which Roman soldiers used hot mineral springs to heal sore muscles and battle wounds.

More than 2000 years ago, between 460 and 370 BC, the ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates mentioned in his writings the use of bathing as a curative process rather than a simple hygienic ritual.

In earlier history, the term thermae is mentioned in ancient Rome. Later, the term "spa" was mentioned in the city of Spa in Belgium, and outside Europe, the Japanese ryokan, Turkish hammam and Finnish saunas and steam rooms were mentioned.

For spa culture today we can freely say that it leads a holistic approach in which the body and mind are seen as a whole, and how important such an approach is is best described by figures that tell us that the global spa industry grew from 60 billion US dollars in 2007 to 98,6 , $ 2015 billion in 71 - while spa destinations jumped from 762 to 121 destinations in those same eight years.

“The great escape” is the striking slogan of the Monart Destination Spa hotel, which was declared in the top 1% of the best hotels in the world in 2020 by Tripadvisor. I must admit that it is a great honor and privilege for me to work here as a manager.

Since Monart Spa Destination is one of the world leaders in the spa industry, I will try to show in detail why this is so.

The spa experience begins with entering the spa where guests are asked to turn off or mute their cell phones. Guests are welcomed at the reception, their health data is taken in order to avoid possible health counter-effects due to certain diseases, allergies or intolerances.

Monart’s thermal zone is the heart of the entire spa. Based on the ancient ritual of hot and cold baths, a journey through each of the nine thermal rooms offers the ultimate experience of relaxation, rejuvenation and refreshment.

Heated benches, Kneipp baths and foot baths mark the beginning of the path through the thermal zone. A room where you can experience a range of showers of different temperatures and pressures it is ideal for use between each of the treatments. In the salt room you will be treated with steam and salt to encourage skin softening, improve circulation and alleviate respiratory difficulties. Caldarium using intense heat and low humidity effectively relieves stress, tension and pain. Infrared sauna with the help of light it creates heat and directly warms the body and reduces muscle tension (especially in the upper and lower back), improves circulation and accelerates detoxification.

Sanarium or gentle room it is a unique combination of a Finnish sauna and a Turkish bath, and a pleasant combination of heat and moisture soothes joints and muscles. Aromatic steam bath (Turkish bath) with the help of eucalyptus, they relax the body and muscles and stimulate sweating, as a result of which toxins are expelled from the body and the skin is cleansed. Traditional Finnish sauna with the help of heat it stimulates muscle relaxation and relieves tension in the body, stimulates metabolism in the body (due to increased sweating improves blood circulation, excretion of harmful substances and cleans pores) and also has a beneficial effect on the circulatory and respiratory systems.

Outdoor wooden sauna with ice bath using intense heat and low humidity promotes exfoliation, toning and softening of the skin while the ice bath is full of energy. Hydromassage pool of 55 square meters there are nine different stations where hydromassage jets massage different muscle groups relieving tension and stress.

Within the spa treatment area there are 15 rooms equipped with superbly equipped rooms in which highly qualified therapists simply amaze with their professional and individualized approach.

The treatment offer consists of facial treatments, full body treatments and body wrapping that are tailored to all, and special treatments that are tailored to men, pregnant women and people with medical difficulties. Hairdressing services as well as pedicure and manicure services are also offered. It is also important to emphasize that only the award-winning natural cosmetics Pevonia and the clinically tested professional cosmetics Image Skincare (founded by a plastic surgeon) are used. Products used in Monart Spa, Monart merch and everything you need for a complete Spa experience, but also memories of coming home, can be purchased at Monart Spa retail shop.

After time spent in the thermal zone and treatment room, it is advisable to spend a minimum of 15 minutes in a dark or light relaxing room with tea. It is important to note that with the superbly equipped gym offers and yoga studio.

Spa cafe located within the spa area is an ideal place to continue the day, and is characterized by an exciting offer of healthy salads, snacks, smoothies, juices and teas.

Finally, impeccably and innovatively equipped spa, highly qualified therapists led by a spa manager and top cosmetics are the main prerequisites for the success of a spa destination which, due to independence from external weather conditions can be the basis and guarantee of year-round tourism. Monart Destination Spa is an ideal example of all of the above.
