It's official. Croatia became a full Schengen member.

Today, the EU Council of Interior Ministers discussed Croatia's membership in the Schengen area, and Croatia received the unanimous support of the Council for Internal Affairs and Justice.

From January 1, 2023, Croatia is in Schengen when it comes to road crossings, railway crossings, seaports, while in air traffic, i.e. airports, the decision is valid from March 26, 2023.

Entry into the Schengen zone, as well as the introduction of the euro from January 01st, will be a great positive boost for the Croatian economy, and especially for tourism. Let us remind you that over 75% of foreign visitors and 80% of goods exchange come from Schengen member states.

This decision will give an additional impetus to the growth of tourist traffic and the competitiveness of the sector, as it will certainly strengthen the interest in the Croatian tourist offer, according to the hoteliers gathered in HUT.

"Even stronger integration of Croatia into the EU brought about by entry into the Schengen area is extremely optimistic news for the tourism sector and the entire economy. The strengthening of the country's security level brought about by the entry into the Schengen area, as well as the entry into the eurozone from January 1 and the adoption of the currency used by our guests from the key emitting countries, will further facilitate the arrival and strengthen the interest in Croatia in the EU members, as well as the demand from third countries", said Veljko Ostojić, director of HUT.

Our key emitting countries are members of the Schengen area, which means that Croatia's entry into that area and the abolition of border controls on our border with Slovenia and Hungary will mean an even faster and easier arrival in Croatia for tourists from those countries.

Due to the easier arrival, the common currency and the strengthening of the perception of safety, guests who have not chosen Croatia as their vacation destination will certainly come to Croatia.
