During 2019, a total of 56 new hotels, camps and marinas were categorized in Croatia.

The largest number of new facilities, as many as 30, are categorized with a high category, ie with four and five stars. In 2019, the Ministry of Tourism, which carries out the categorization of catering and tourist facilities from the groups: hotels, camps and nautical tourism ports, categorized 36 hotels, camps and marinas that increased their capacity and / or increased the category or number of stars / anchors. 

43 new hotels opened

In 2019, the Ministry of Tourism categorized 43 new hotels with 3.948 beds while 26 hotels increased capacity and / or category. 26 new hotels are categorized with high category with four and five stars. The largest number of new hotels is categorized in Split-Dalmatia County (13), Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (6), the City of Zagreb (6) and Istria County (5). In the continental counties in 2019, a total of 5 new hotels were categorized. 

More than 3.000 new campsites

In 2019, the Ministry of Tourism also categorized 10 new campsites with a total of 3.252 campsites, of which 4 new high-category campsites with 4 and 5 stars. The largest number of new campsites is categorized in Zadar County (4 campsites with 485 campsites) and Istria County (2 campsites with 280 campsites), and 2 new campsites in 2019 were opened on the continent (Krapinske toplice and Vrhovine in Lika). In addition to the new campsites, 9 more campsites in 2019 increased the number of stars (2) or increased capacity (7).

The first two marinas with 5 anchors opened 

In 2019, three new marinas were opened with a total of 774 berths, of which two marinas received the 5 anchor quality category. One new marina is categorized in Primorje - Gorski Kotar County (Cres), Dubrovnik - Neretva County (Dubrovnik) and Istria County (Medulin), while the marina in Rovinj, which offers 192 berths, has increased its quality standard to 5 anchors. 

Cappelli: Emphasis on strengthening the quality of the tourist offer and extending activities throughout the year

"The Government of the Republic of Croatia has recognized the importance that tourism has for progress, demographic sustainability and increasing living standards in local communities. Therefore, from the beginning of the mandate, we place emphasis on strengthening the quality of the tourist offer and extending the activities to the whole year. In the past few years, we have achieved exceptional results in the form of tourist traffic, but more importantly, the revenues from tourism are constantly increasing and we are attracting an increasing number of investments. The opening of new hotels, camps and marinas in 2019, most of which are categorized by the highest quality standards of 4 and 5 stars, is proof that we have set a quality framework for sustainable development of Croatian tourism that will encourage attracting guests of different interests and increase consumption through most of the tourist year" said Tourism Minister Gary Cappelli.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the continuation of the positive trend of investing in Croatian tourism is expected in 2020, especially due to the plan to adopt two laws that will contribute to improving the investment climate, the Law on Unrated Construction Land. Of the Republic of Croatia and the new comprehensive law on maritime domain and seaports with a plan for referral to the procedure of the Government of the Republic of Croatia in 2020.           

Categorization 2019 - A total of 784 hotels, which have 62.614 accommodation units and 122.568 beds

According to the categorization data, we entered the 2020 tourist year with a total of 784 hotels.

50 2 * hotels with 3.963 accommodation units and 7.974 beds. In the 3 * categorization we have 313 hotels, 20.266 accommodation units and 39.965 beds.

In the 4 * category we have 329 hotels, which have 29.719 accommodation units and 57.636 beds, while we have a total of 5 44 * hotels, with 6161 accommodations. units and 12.075 beds.

Also, according to the categorization, we have 22 Heritage Hotels, 2 Diffuse Hotels, 20 Integral Hotels and 4 hotels of special standard.
