In the first four months of 2023, there were 2,0 million arrivals and 5,3 million tourist overnight stays in commercial accommodation facilities, which is a 30,4% increase in arrivals and a 19,6% increase in tourist overnight stays compared to the same period in 2022.
In the first four months of 2023, domestic tourists achieved 615 arrivals and 1,3 million overnight stays, which is a 17,5% increase in arrivals and a 12,6% increase in tourist overnight stays.
In the same period, foreign tourists achieved 1,4 million arrivals and 4,0 million overnight stays, which is 37,1% more arrivals and 22,1% more tourist overnight stays compared to the first four months of 2022.
The most overnight stays by foreign tourists, as in the first three months of 2023, were achieved by tourists from Slovenia (678 thousand overnight stays, which is 17,1% of the total overnight stays by foreign tourists). They are followed by overnight stays by tourists from Germany (15,9%), Austria (11,4%), Italy (6,1%) and the United Kingdom (4,6%). All the mentioned countries achieved an increase in tourist overnight stays in the first four months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
In April 2023, 533 permanent beds were available to tourists
In April 2023, there were 1,1 million arrivals and 3,0 million tourist overnight stays in commercial accommodation facilities, which is 31,0% more arrivals and 20,4% more tourist overnight stays compared to April 2022.
Domestic tourists achieved 220 arrivals and 494 overnight stays, which is 15,5% more arrivals and overnight stays compared to April 2022.
Foreign tourists achieved 870 thousand arrivals and 2,5 million overnight stays, which is 35,6% more arrivals and 21,5% more overnight stays compared to April 2022.
In April 2023, 208 rooms, apartments and camping sites with 533 permanent beds were available to tourists. Compared to April 2022, there were 6,2% more rooms, apartments and places for camping available to tourists and 5,9% more permanent beds.
In the Hotels and similar accommodation group, 69 rooms, apartments and camping sites were available to tourists (which is 33,4% of the total number of available rooms, apartments and camping sites) with 145 permanent beds (which is 27,1 % of the total number of available permanent beds). In April 2023, the average occupancy of rooms in the Hotels and similar accommodation group was 46,5%, and 43,1% of permanent beds.
The most realized overnight stays by foreign tourists from Germany and Slovenia
In April 2023, tourists from Germany and Slovenia accounted for the most overnight stays among foreign tourists. Tourists from Germany had 466 thousand overnight stays, which is 18,3% of the total overnight stays of foreign tourists, while tourists from Slovenia had 450 thousand overnight stays, which is 17,7% of the total overnight stays of foreign tourists. Compared to April 2022, tourists from Germany had 5,5% more overnight stays, while tourists from Slovenia had 14,2% more overnight stays.
They are followed by overnight stays by tourists from Austria (11,6%), Italy (5,7%), the United Kingdom (5,4%) and Poland (3,8%). All tourists from the mentioned countries achieved an increase in overnight stays in April 2023 compared to April 2022, except for tourists from the United Kingdom. Their overnight stays are 2,9% less.
Tourists mostly spent the night in hotels
In April 2023, hotels recorded the highest number of overnight stays by tourists, 1,4 million, which is 46,7% of the total overnight stays. Compared to April 2022, the number of overnight stays by tourists in hotels increased by 25,8%.
They are followed by overnight stays of tourists in rooms, apartments and holiday homes, with 829 overnight stays, which is 27,2% of the total overnight stays. This type of accommodation achieved an increase in overnight stays by 15,2% compared to April 2022.
The County of Istria achieved one million tourist overnight stays in April 2023.
In the County of Istria, the most overnight stays by tourists were realized in April 2023, namely 1,0 million overnight stays, which is 33,8% of the total overnight stays in Croatia. The millionth overnight stay was achieved one month earlier compared to 2022, when it was achieved in May. Compared to April 2022, 13,6% more overnight stays were realized in the County of Istria.
Domestic tourists achieved 124 thousand overnight stays (which is 12,1% of the total overnight stays in the County of Istria in April 2023), while foreign tourists achieved 903 thousand overnight stays (which is 87,9% of the total overnight stays in the County of Istria) . Out of the total overnight stays of foreign tourists in the County of Istria, the most overnight stays were made by tourists from Slovenia (26,7%) and tourists from Germany (23,6%).
Domestic tourists spent most nights in the City of Zagreb, and foreign tourists in Dubrovnik
In April 2023, domestic tourists spent the most nights in the City of Zagreb, followed by Rovinj - Rovigno, Zadar, Poreč - Parenzo and Dubrovnik (which is 25,2% of the total overnight stays of domestic tourists). Foreign tourists spent the most nights in Dubrovnik, followed by Zagreb, Poreč - Parenzo, Rovinj - Rovigno and Split (which is 32,1% of the total overnight stays by foreign tourists).
