Međimurje Simply the best award for the best continental tourism destination

Međimurje is officially the best continental tourism destination in Croatia. The smallest Croatian county with great tourist affinities is the winner of the award "Simply the best" in the selection of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies, the business tourism exchange PUT and the tourist magazine Way to Croatia, awarded on April 10 in Biograd na moru.

The Destination of the Year category - continental Croatia is awarded for creativity, innovation and development, as well as improvement of the tourist offer.

The people of Međimurje are flattered by this, another award in a series they have received in the last few years, but it does not surprise anyone who follows events in domestic tourism, as well as tens of thousands of tourists who spent 221.103 overnight stays last year.

It is a fact that the Međimurje County invests considerable efforts and funds in order to place Međimurje not only on the domestic and European, but also on the world tourist map.

After all, it is the first Croatian destination with Green Destination mark, which is proof of the successful implementation of the green transition, and as many as 13 Međimurje tourist facilities are holders of the first Good Travel certificates in Croatia, which guarantee a high standard with a focus on environmental protection.

Turning to a green business strategy excludes Međimurje from the Croatian framework and ranks it as a region alongside the most conscious in the world such as Costa Rica, the Azores, Palau-Malaysia, the Galapagos and Slovenia.

According to the Prefect of Međimurje, long-term strategic planning in the synergy of Međimurje County and its Tourist Board, led by director Rudi Grulo Matija Posavec, led to the recognition of Međimurje as the leader of continental tourism. 

"This prestigious award is fuel for new successes", emphasizes Posavec County. Rudi Grula adds that Simply the best award, "confirmation of the route taken by the Međimurje County and the Tourist Board". Both are convinced that this great recognition will further stimulate the development of Međimurje tourism and bring new visitors.

Međimurje, apart from its green landscape and unsurpassed views, stands out for its rich cultural heritage united under the umbrella of the Međimurje Eco Museum, its enogastro offer, dozens of kilometers of well-maintained hiking and cycling trails, and recently a world rarity - the organ built into the wooden construction lookout point on Mađerkina breg.

Thanks to the selection for the best continental destination, next year Međimurje will host tourism workers from Croatia and its neighboring countries, which will further contribute to the promotion of county tourism.
