If you once got off the A1 highway in Ogulin and took the state road from Oštarijski Island towards the Plitvice Lakes National Park - you could have gone astray. Because there were no proper traffic signs that would lead you to the most visited Croatian national park on that road. Or uninformed foreigners, following the traffic signs, could turn off the highway in Ogulin and head towards the Croatian Olympic Center Bjelolasica. And never find the Olympic center, because it no longer exists.

That's how it was until recently.

However, on the initiative of the prefect of Karlovac County, Martina Furdek Hajdin, excellent cooperation between them was achieved Karlovac County, Regional tourist boards and Croatian highways, and new road signs were changed or installed for the Plitvice Lakes National Park.

On the highway, in both directions, signs for the non-existent Croatian Olympic Center Bjelolasica were replaced with those for the Plitvice Lakes, and 7 new signs were placed that direct tourists from the highway to the National Park at the Ogulin intersection.

Also, on the state road D42, complete tourist signage has been installed, which leads tourists from the highway exit via Josipdol, Plaški and Saborski towards the Plitvice Lakes

"I believe that this will intensify tourist traffic in those rural parts of Karlovac County, which is extremely important to us. The proximity of Plitvice is a great asset for us in terms of tourism development, which has been recognized by many private entrepreneurs in the wider area of Rakovica. With the new traffic signals, we expect even better tourism results, especially in the cities of Ogulin and Slunj and the municipalities of Josipdol, Plaško and Saborsko", said the prefect of Karlovac County Martina Furdek Hajdin.

According to the tourist results achieved, Karlovac County is, as the Director of the Regional Tourist Board Željko Fanjak reminds, the best continental county in Croatia.

"More than half of our tourist traffic is related to the Tourist Board of the Plitvice Valley area. Plitvice is always a big lure for tourists, so I expect that this will contribute to the recognition of that part of our county. The new tourist signage will help some now undiscovered parts of our county find their place on the tourist map.", he points out Željko Fanjak.
