The Agreement on Cooperation between Plitvice Lakes was solemnly signed today Public institutions Plitvice Lakes National Park i Ruidera National Park of the Lagoons from the Kingdom of Spain

Due to the similarity of the natural environment between Croatia and Castilla-La Mancha, it is important to exchange experiences and knowledge in protected areas and forests in the context of sustainable forest management, Nature 2000 and nature conservation in relation to the growing need for renewable energy sources, says Tomislav Kovačević , director of Plitvice Lakes National Park

Specifically, the common interest is related to nature protection, inventory and monitoring of species and habitats, climate change mitigation and adaptation, endangerment of travertine barriers due to climate change and other potential threats, sustainable forest management and forest fire extinguishing systems, hydrological system management and water quality monitoring, visitor management and sustainable tourism, and with the exchange of research and monitoring results primarily related to aquatic ecosystems.

Recall, Plitvice Lakes National Park is listed on UNESCO World Heritage List October 26, 1979. This is the first area in the Republic of Croatia and among the first in the world to be included in the List due to its natural values.

The interaction of water, air, geological substrate and organisms, and thanks to special physico-chemical and biological conditions, enabled the formation of travertine, which created a number of lakes, barriers and waterfalls by blocking watercourses. The totality of these processes and their unique ecology and the exceptional beauty of the area make a unique universal value of the Plitvice Lakes National Park.
