On the way to sustainability: Education for all stakeholders in tourism in the area of ​​Srijem and Slavonia

Trends in tourism show that as many as 70 percent of travelers prefer to choose accommodation that applies sustainable management practices, while for more than 80 percent of travelers in the world it is very important to travel sustainably. Encouraged by these indicators, the Tourist Board of Vukovar-Srijem County decided to organize an educational event for stakeholders in tourism in the area of ​​Srijem and Slavonia, in order to be as successful as possible in the sustainable management of the destination. The event called "Destinations and sustainability - where are we, where do we want to be?" will be held in the Vukovar City Museum, December 5, 2023 starting at 10 a.m.

Vukovar will be the host educational event focused on sustainable management in tourism. As part of this educational event, we will talk about the management of destinations according to the principles of sustainable development, the role played by tourism operators in the destination in this process, management practices that lead to sustainability, and the reasons why and how destinations and their stakeholders can receive a sustainability certificate. The participants will have the opportunity to take part in the conversation, exchange ideas on ways to improve sustainability in their community, but also learn how they can shape the sustainable future of a destination such as the Vukovar-Srijem County.

This educational event is useful for understanding the sustainable management of destinations and informing about the benefits that sustainable management brings to business, especially if you take into account the fact that all a greater number of travelers prefer to choose destinations and accommodation that apply sustainable management practices. We invite all interested people who work in tourism in the area of ​​our county to join us in exchanging opinions and creating concrete steps towards a sustainable future.", she said Majda Jakša, director of the Vukovar-Srijem County Tourist Board.
