As part of the valuable EU project 9,74 million euros the Žigljen ferry pier on the island of Pag was reconstructed and extended. The project included extension works, i.e. extensions and reconstruction of shores 1, 2 and 3, while the intervention made it possible to dock vessels in bad weather conditions by building embankments that will protect the shores from wind and waves.

The project activities reduced the need for maneuvering to the berth and shortened the duration of the entry and departure maneuvers, and the conditions for the overnight stay of vessels in the ferry dock on shore 3 were met. The project itself ensured adequate mooring, as well as the safety of the Prizna-Žigljen ferry line.

At the opening ceremony of the reconstructed ferry pier Žigljen, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic who emphasized that, with the help of European and national funds, around 300 million euros are currently being invested in port infrastructure projects.

"We are a country facing the sea, we live from the sea, and projects like this are crucial for us both from the aspect of navigation safety and from the aspect of tourism, economic growth... We still have to realize the Prizna and that is something that the Port Authority of Senj should slowly prepare.", said Butković, stressing that there are funds and that a new call will be announced in the fall, thus opening up the possibility of financing such projects.

"Ferries can now spend the night here even in high winds, hurricanes, the mooring is better now and I hope that soon there will be a pier on the opposite side that will be able to accommodate two to three ferries and then we will have an even bigger dimension and traffic connection . There are no traffic jams, traffic flows without any problems and traffic jams, we are fully prepared with this traffic solution.", concluded Kustić for HRT.
