The use of disposable plastics has been abolished at the Falkensteiner Punta Skala resort, and cups, bottles and straws made of biodegradable or reusable materials have been introduced.

Environmental protection, wastewater treatment, waste reduction and optimization of energy consumption are just some of the solutions in Falkensteiner Punta Skala that aim to preserve the environment and sustainable development. Thus, this resort ranks at the very top of environmentally conscious hotels, not only in Croatia but also in Europe.

"From the very beginning, work was done on collecting certain types of recyclable waste separately (paper and cardboard packaging, PET packaging, wood, glass and metal). Since 2019, even more attention has been paid to this project. A system of separate collection of bio-waste has been introduced, a reorganization has been made within kitchens and restaurants, and a system of waste separation has been introduced at all levels and in all hotel departments.", They point out from Falkensteiner and add that they also worked on the education of management and staff. Promotional leaflets were made inviting guests to participate in this project and conscientiously separate their waste in rooms and apartments.

As a next step, it is planned to purchase an electric composter that would be used for processing biowaste, and the production of its own compost, which would then be used to maintain green areas in the resort. It is also planned to procure a larger number of bins for separate waste collection, further investment in arranging the existing recycling yard in the resort where it would be the main collection point for all types of waste and its further sorting and disposal.

The economical heating and cooling system in Punta Skala has reduced the need to use fossil fuels because seawater is pumped and used in summer for cooling and in winter for heating. What additionally contributes to the epithet of an ecological oasis is the car-free zone. Therefore, there is an integrated underground garage in the ambience so that cars do not have to stand in front of the hotel, pollute the environment, but also interfere with the rest with noise.

The resort also has its own wastewater treatment plant which is treated through biological devices and stored with collected rainwater and water for rinsing from the bathroom. Domestic water is used not only for flushing toilets but also for watering gardens while the desalination plant desalinates part of the seawater via an osmosis device and this water can be used as drinking water. The rest is discharged back into the sea.
