The calendar for the new school year has been published

The Ministry of Science and Education opened a public consultation on the Draft Decision on the beginning and end of the school year, the number of working days and the duration of holidays for primary and secondary school students for the 2024/2025 school year.

The public consultation was opened for the purpose of informing the interested public, receiving feedback and active involvement of the interested public regarding the proposed decision, and is available on the eSavjetovanja portal, at the link: https://esavjetovanja.gov.hr/ECon/MainScreen?entityId=26821

According to the proposal, the academic year will begin on September 2, 2024, and end on June 18, 2025, or May 23, 2025 for students in the final grades of high school.

The first semester will last from September 2, 2024 to December 20, 2024, and the second from January 7, 2025 to June 18, 2025.

Teaching is planned in 175 teaching days, and for high school graduates in 160 teaching days.

Autumn vacation will be from October 31 to November 4, 2024.

The first part of the winter vacation for students begins on December 23, 2024 and lasts until January 3, 2025, with classes starting on January 7, 2025.

The second part of the winter vacation for students begins on February 24, 2025 and ends on February 28, 2025.

Classes will start again on March 3, 2025.

Spring break begins on April 17, 2025 and ends on April 25, 2025, with classes beginning on April 28, 2025.

The summer vacation begins on June 19, 2025, except for students who are taking a subject, class, supplementary or distinction exam, who have supplementary course work, final work or state matriculation exams, for students in programs whose major part is carried out in the form of practical classes and exercises, as well as for students who at that time have professional practice, which is determined by the school's annual work plan and program.

The public consultation is open until April 13, 2024. Some teachers of schools on the coast have so far expressed dissatisfaction with the early start of the school year and its late end.

"I believe that the proposal puts students and workers in schools in counties where a large number of residents are directly and indirectly engaged in tourism activities, in an extremely unfavorable position. Such an early start of the school year will leave many without the necessary workforce, and high school students without the income that families desperately need these days.", is one of the comments.
