The ethnographic collection Street of Forgotten Time in Karanac, owned by Vladimir Škroba - Baje, was officially declared a cultural asset according to the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Media.

The collection, which consists of 847 items, was entered into the register of cultural assets of the Republic of Croatia in September of this year.

Displayed in the courtyard of the restaurant Baranja house in Karanac, at the address Kolodvorska 99, the collection began to form in 2004. Then the owner started collecting traditional objects and tools with the desire to form a kind of open-air museum, which would be the accompanying content of the restaurant.

Barns, traditional wooden outbuildings were placed in the yard, and the mill building and symbolic houses were built of wood and adobe, smeared with mud plaster and painted with lime.

A collection of thousands of items

The items date from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, tools with related craft products, are presented thematically. Thus, in one barn, the look of a barbershop from the beginning of the 20th century is exhibited, and in the other, an inn.

In the yard, an icehouse was also built, a commercial building intended for storing ice extracted from the Danube during the winter.

In addition to crafts, numerous agricultural tools and machines, which were part of rural farms in the first half of the 20th century, are on display.

The landscaped courtyard, symbolically named the Street of Forgotten Time, was opened in 2010, and the collection of objects continued. The entire collection of traditional objects collected so far contains thousands of items, of which processed in 847.

As particularly valuable items, it is possible to single out a collection of wooden molds for the production of shubar, a collection of ratchets and clappers, the primary function of which was the protection of Baranja vineyards during the ripening of grapes.

The goal of forming the Street of Forgotten Time is to show and save from oblivion all the crafts that were a necessary part of everyday life in the countryside, and today they are completely forgotten or there are no more masters who dealt with them.

An extremely rich and valuable collection of ethnographic objects is attractively presented in an organized space and shows history of crafts and traditional economy Baranje, but also of the whole of eastern Croatia, and as such it now has the property of cultural property.
