How it transmits Index, the European Union is expected to fully open its borders to fully vaccinated by early June. Due to mass vaccinations across EU member states, the European Commission has decided it is time to ease travel measures.
But in the event of a sudden deterioration in one of the countries or regions, they are ready to introduce strict measures again.
The obligation to test for corona before and after arrival or quarantine will still be in force in some member states, but the EU says that these measures will be gradually relaxed as vaccination progresses and the situation in some countries improves.
Portugal and Greece are already among the countries that accept fully vaccinated from the UK, but with this move the EU wants to further expand that list of countries to help everyone during the upcoming tourist season. The European Parliament is still deliberating on so-called covid passports, which are expected to be implemented by mid-June.
The EC reports that to date, over 200 million EU citizens have been vaccinated, and that 40% of adults have received at least one vaccine. According to the plan, 70% of the adult population in the EU is expected to be vaccinated by July.
