Trieste, Istria and Mali Lošinj will be connected by a boat line again next summer. The departure and return of the service will be in Trieste, and the line will include destinations in Piran, Poreč, Rovinj and Mali Lošinj.

According to the plan, the line will have four different routes, each lasting two weeks: Trieste-Piran-Poreč-Rovinj, Trieste-Rovinj-Mali Lošinj, Trieste-Poreč-Piran and Trieste-Piran-Rovinj.

The establishment of the line was made possible thanks to public financial support from Italy. The contract for the service will last for three years, covering the summer seasons from 2025 to 2027, with an option to extend for 2028. In the first season, in 2025, the line will be operational from June 26 until the beginning of September, reports HANDLE.

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region has announced, namely, a new procurement procedure for international cross-border maritime service, and the announcement was made by the regional adviser for infrastructure and territory, Cristina Amirante, who said that with this procurement procedure, the aim is to improve the service in order to better meet the needs of tourists and citizens.

As stated in the press release, the total budget for three years is 4,5 million euros, or 1,5 million euros per year.

Trieste and Istria were connected by a shipping line as early as 1963, when the motor ship Edra docked in all the cities of western Istria. With some changes, the line continued to operate until the beginning of the 1990s, when regular passenger services with the ship Dione ended in 1990.
