TZ Zagreb County (TZZŽ) presented the Green Destinations certificate and the results of the KNOWING project

On Friday, March 15, 2024, the Zagreb County Tourist Board presented the Green Destinations certificate of bronze luster, as well as the successful results of the KNOWING project, at the Korak family estate, in the premises of the restaurant awarded with a Michelin star, while placing a strong emphasis on the tourist board's commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental protection.

The Tourist Board of Zagreb County emphasized that Green Destinations is a certificate  recognition of continuous efforts and focus on nature conservation. The certificate gives the Zagreb County a strong boost and confirms that it is not only a vacation destination, but also an example of a successful combination of tourism and environmental protection.

"Our efforts have borne fruit, which is confirmed by the numbers we record every year. We are strategically committed to sustainable tourism. Through this certificate, Zagreb County becomes synonymous with responsible tourism and care for the environment. As the director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, I see this certificate as an incentive for further innovation and development. Our county is already recording continuous growth in the number of overnight stays and visitors, and with this certificate we want to show that sustainable tourism is not only possible, but also crucial for our future. This is our story of success, but also our commitment to the generations to come. Sustainability is our passion, our vision and our future. All this is supported by the really excellent results of the KNOWING project, through which we showed awareness of climate change, but also determination for prevention and the necessary adjustments. It's all part of the same, sustainable story" emphasized the director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board Ivana Alilović.

Let us remind you that the Zagreb County became the largest county in Croatia with the Green Destinations label and thus ranked among the world's top destinations.

In addition to the certificate, the results of the 'KNOWING' project, which investigates the impact of human activities on climate change, were also presented. With 20 partners, they worked on a systematic approach to climate risk management with the aim of implementing measures for a sustainable and climate-neutral future.

"Understanding the impact of these phenomena on tourism and encouraging responsible behavior to preserve the climate was our primary goal of joining this European project, because we cannot fight against nature, but we can start to adapt in time to everything that awaits us. This is the only responsible and sustainable management of the destination", she added director Ivana Alilović.

The 'KNOWING' project is an interdisciplinary project involving scientists, regional partners and communication experts. The project focused on the climatic challenges of the Zagreb County, such as extreme heat, prolonged droughts, hailstorms and heavy rains.
