Yesterday he was in the European Parliament in Brussels The city of Novalja was officially awarded the prestigious title of European City of Sports for 2025 in the category of cities with up to 25.000 inhabitants.
The city of Novalja was awarded that title by a non-profit organization ACES Europe (European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation), which recognizes exceptional achievements in the development of sports, sports infrastructure, encouraging active tourism and promoting a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, on the same day, the ACES Europe organization celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The title of European City of Sport for 2025 was received by representatives of the City of Novalja and the Tourist Board of the City of Novalja in the presence of GF Lupattelli, founder and president of ACES Europe: Matej Gušćić, President of the City Council of the City of Novalja, Marina Šćiran, director of the Tourist Board of the City of Novalja with her colleague Marina Dabo, Marin Badurina Tomić, president of the Sports Association of the city of Novalja i Ante Dabo, intern at the European Parliament.
This title confirms the long-standing efforts of the City of Novalja in improving the sports offer and infrastructure and creating better conditions for all citizens and visitors. The ceremony of awarding the title of European City of Sports for 2025 was an opportunity to exchange experiences with other fourteen European cities, which are also proud holders of this prestigious title.
"We are extremely proud of this prestigious title because as a community, led by the City of Novalja and the Tourist Board of the City of Novalja, we invest considerable resources in the development of sports in the area of our city. This opens up new opportunities, which we will certainly make the most of, taking care of our citizens who can choose from several sports and clubs, but also the ever-increasing number of tourists looking for active vacations and outdoor tourism, for which we have already become recognizable.", said Marina Šćiran, director of the TZ of the City of Novalja.
"We are honored with this recognition, which obliges us to develop sports even more in the area of the City of Novalja so that our citizens practice sports as a healthy habit as much as possible in order to have a better quality of life. We want to strengthen the current clubs and establish new ones, but also systematically implement education and motivation for sports for citizens of all generations in the area of the City of Novalja.", said Marin Badurina Tomić, president of the Sports Association of the city of Novalja.
Awarding the title of European City of Sports for 2025 to the City of Novalja is the result of continuous work on improving the sports offer, encouraging participation in sports activities for all generations, with special emphasis on people with disabilities and difficulties. An important role and criterion is played by the organization of numerous local, national and international sports events such as the international cycling race CRO Race, the Life on Mars trail race, the Pag Outdoor project, the Granfondo Pag cycling marathon, the International Dance Open dance competition and the Olea Cup football tournament. along with many other sports events that take place throughout the year.
This recognition additionally motivates the City of Novalja to further improve its sports and recreational facilities in order to become an even more attractive destination for recreationists, athletes and lovers of active vacations.
