Two-day anniversary celebration: '25 years of Apoxyomena' on Lošinj

His '25. birthday' this weekend will be celebrated by the most famous resident of Lošinj - Apoksiomen. Namely, on April 27, 1999, an ancient bronze statue of the young athlete Apoksiomen emerged from the seabed of the islet of Vela Orjula south to the island of Lošinj.

As part of the celebration, on April 26 in the morning hours on the Lošinj waterfront in front of the Museum of Apoksiomen, a video will be taken millennial photo Šime Strikoman, in which about five hundred participants will take part.

In the evening, the Museum of Apoxyomena will be held concert Tamara Obrovac and the Italian pianist Stefan Battaglia called "Apoxyomenos recomposed".

On the second day, the celebration continues in the morning Apoxyomene's banquet with a tasting of ancient wines, then in the afternoon the Museum will hold an expert round table "The role of Apoxyomena - then and now".

The two-day celebration will close with the opening exhibitions "Olive - a sacred plant and a rich gift" by the author, senior curator Martinela Mužić.

At the expert round table, the director of the Lošinj Museum - museum consultant archaeologist will share her experiences and opinions Zrinka Ettinger Starčić, underwater archaeologist Ph.D. Smiljan Gluscevic, former assistant minister of culture and chief conservator, manager of the Apoksiomen project by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia Miljenko Domijan, senior conservator art historian, manager of the Apoksiomen project from 2006 to 2016 and author of the content of the permanent exhibition at the Apoksiomen Museum Iskra Karniš Vidovič, professor, Ph.D. Carol C. Mattusch at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA, professor Ph.D. Hrvoje Potrebica from the Department of Archeology of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb and a geologist, publicist and translator from Lošinj Dubravko Balenović. The moderator of the round table is Branka Reljac.

"The aim of the expert round table entitled The role of Apoxyomenes - then and now is to consider in an expert manner the issue of Apoxyomenes, what has been done and what we can still do regarding the most significant archaeological maritime find", announced the director of the Lošinj Museum - museum consultant archaeologist Zrinka Ettinger Starčić.

"Inspired by the world attraction, for years we have been designing an offer for our fellow citizens and visitors on the theme of Apoxyomena and antiquity. By organizing numerous events, educations and workshops, such as these, we partly 'revive' our history, but also introduce interested parties to the cultural and historical heritage of Lošinj.", according to the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mali Lošinj Dalibor Cvitkovic.

This most complete bronze statue is permanently housed in a unique museum in the Mediterranean, built just for him - the Museum of Apoxyomenes. That is exactly why this location was chosen as the main event venue.
