Croatia was first included in "Handbook of examples of good practices on affordable tourism in rural and natural areas"' World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Namely, the UNWTO is part of the tender Good Practices on Accessible Tourism in Rural and Nature Areas among the examples of good practice included the project Medvednica Nature Park - Bliznec Forest Trail, the first educational trail in Croatia that is fully, by construction and content, adapted to people with special needs.
It should be reminded that the Croatian National Tourist Board, in coordination with the system of tourist boards, last year invited tourist stakeholders to apply for the UNWTO tender, and between the two proposals that met the conditions, the project Forest trail Bliznec was assessed as an excellent and concrete project and, after a year of intensive cooperation between the CNTB and the UNWTO and with a strong contribution Medvednica Nature Park, included in the manual.
"The Bliznec forest trail is a cultural and tourist offer that has a positive effect on the well-being and improvement of the quality of life, and its special feature is its adaptation to visitors with disabilities. In its length of 800 meters, you can explore educational boards that offer information about the picturesque history of this part of Medvednica and its flora and fauna. Through additional facilities, our Public Institution Nature Park Medvednica wants to contribute to the promotion of responsible, sustainable and modernly accessible tourism‘, she pointed out director of the Medvednica Nature Park Marina Popijač.
Let's add how U dedicates its work to the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, and this handbook raises awareness of the fundamental mission of the tourism sector, which is to make tourism accessible to all. The projects collected in this handbook are examples of destinations that have broken down barriers and thus provided new and exciting opportunities to users and are proof that nature areas can be made accessible without harming the natural environment.
"For more than a year, the Croatian National Tourist Board has dedicatedly and intensively worked on the project of affordable tourism through daily cooperation with the UNWTO and members of the Working Group for Affordable Tourism. We are extremely proud that for the first time in history Croatia is included in this important manual that will allow us to further position ourselves as a desirable tourist destination for every guest, emphasizing easier access for people with disabilities to natural and cultural resources, routes and local heritage. On this occasion, I would like to thank the Medvednica Nature Park for the good cooperation and I believe that in the future we will cooperate with other tourism stakeholders on projects of this importance, " pointed out the director of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić.
