The tourist company Valamar is the winner of the prestigious award award of the Croatian Sustainability Index (HRIO) for excellence in the environmental management category. It's Valamar the first tourist company in Croatia which integrated sustainable development in business management and defined sustainability goals, and was adopted at the beginning of 2024 new strategy for sustainable business development until 2026. years.

Valamar's business strategy until 2026 is based on significant investments that will create new value for the economy, destinations, employees, partners and shareholders, leading taking care of reducing the ecological footprint through energy efficiency, preserving biodiversity and protecting the Adriatic Sea focus in the coming period as well", she stated Ivana Budin Arhanić, member of the Valamar Management Board.
In the construction and planning of hotels, resorts and camps, Valamar places special emphasis on sustainability and the environment. At the beginning of 2026, Valamar opens a luxury resort in Poreč Pical 5*, which is the largest single investment in Croatian tourism, a it is built using the highest standards of green construction and conservation of natural resources, which includes green roofs, solar panels and a big focus on indoor and outdoor green areas. Valamar's award-winning Amicor Green Resort on Hvar, the first eco resort in Croatia, received a gold DGNB pre-certificate for the sustainable construction of detached villas and is the first such resort in this part of Europe.
Valamar uses 100% electricity from renewable sources and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 72% per accommodation unit since 2015. They were installed at 32 Valamara buildings photovoltaic power plants, and the plan is to achieve a share of 15% in the production of own electricity until 2026. In addition, all Valamar's hotels and camps are holders of ISO certificates in the field of environmental management and sustainable energy management.
Valamar cooperates with WWF Adriatic and completely excluded endangered species such as shark, ray and swordfish from its offer, and by purchasing fish from Fishermen's cooperatives of Komiža supports sustainable local fishing and the preservation of the Adriatic. Valamar has distinctly a high share of domestic food and drinks of 78% and cooperates with many domestic producers and OPGs. In cooperation with the guests, Valamar is conducting the campaign for the third year in a row "Easy as one, two, three" through which more than have been planted so far 22.000 new trees in different parts of Croatia. In addition, the company takes care of 80.000 trees in addition to hotels, summer resorts and campsites in destinations along the Adriatic coast, and the biocompost produced in our own biocomposters is used to maintain horticulture. Valamar achieved a recycling rate higher than the European average, and 150 tons of compost was produced this year, which promotes the circular economy and reduces the carbon footprint.
By investing in renewable energy sources, circular economy, waste reduction and preservation of biodiversity and the Adriatic Sea, Valamar develops destinations in accordance with the highest standards of sustainable business, and at the same time creates value for local communities. Valamar contributes to the preservation of natural resources, improves the quality of life in destinations and contributes to sustainable tourism that is good for everyone - the local community, employees and guests.
