In the first half, we recorded excellent results, and it is obvious that we will finish this year's tourist match with another record, he said in a sporting spirit. Petar Hrg, director of the Gorski Kotar Tourist Board, because the destination is strategically focused on active vacations with numerous attractive sports and recreational opportunities.

He emphasized that the destination has shown a distinct maturity, especially in the segment of the ratio of quality and price, which the visitors really noticed and  through their grades. 

In the first ones six months, Gorski Kotar recorded 17,19% more arrivals and 16,80% more overnight stays compared to the record last year, and compared to 2019, it recorded even 31,82% more arrivals and 36,68% more overnight stays.

In the first half of this year, the objects in households clearly show a growth trend, and it is still noticeable that higher category accommodations are the most sought after in the destination. Furthermore, all local self-government units this year also recorded growth in the number of overnight stays and the number of arrivals compared to the previous record-breaking year, which shows that the destination has a clear vision for further development.

It is especially important to emphasize how the number of beds is continuously growing from year to year.

Namely, 30,35% more beds were recorded compared to 2019, which proves that there are visible investments in the destination. At the same time, investments in tourism infrastructure worth 20 million euros are expected, which refers to projects that the local self-government units of Gorski Kotar have registered under the auspices of of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The attractiveness of the destination is proven in all segments, especially in event an industry in which the largest organizers choose the venue of the event extremely carefully, where Gorski Kotar is recognized as a quality and responsible host.

Visitors satisfied with the price-quality ratio

The destination scores an exceptional quality of 92 out of 100 in the first 6 months of 2023, based on 3386 reviews (opinions of visitors). Attractions recorded quality and guest satisfaction 93 out of 100, an increase of 1%, and hotels quality 86 out of 100, an increase of 8%. According to guest ratings, private accommodation has a quality of 95 out of 100, and travel agencies are rated 100 out of 100. The quality of catering establishments is rated 90 out of 100 with an increase of 3% based on 2135 guest opinions compared to the first 6 months of last year. The available indicators are the result of a long-term project of proactive quality management in the destination, which the Tourist Board of Gorski Kotar launched just after its establishment, more precisely a little more than two years ago.

Visitors are satisfied with the excellent price-quality ratio which is extremely important at a time when the price sensitivity of domestic visitors is extremely high. They praised the quality of local gastronomy, cleanliness and hospitality, which is the basic basis hospitality industry. The direction of investment in the tourism of Gorski kotar, both through investments and capital projects, as well as in the quality and satisfaction of guests, is noticeable. 

"An almost impossible mission has been achieved if we follow the period since 2019, because with almost minimal investments we are recording a growth trend that is certainly an example of good practice, both at the county level and  and the state, especially if we take into account the investment capacities we currently have at our disposal", says Hrg and concludes that Gorski Kotar is a proven green paradise that has the potential to grow into a tourist-mountain mecca in this part of Europe, only a 20-minute drive from the sea.
