The Tourist Board of the town of Vodnjan presented on Friday, July 28, a new edition of the Vodnjan storybook comic.

Vodnjan stories 2 are a collection of selected stories, legends and oral traditions from Vodnjan, Galižana and Peroj. The idea for this project arose in 2019 with the desire to present anecdotes from the Vodnjan area to a wider audience, especially visitors to Vodnjan and its surroundings, in an interesting and original way.

"One of the goals is to nurture intangible heritage, in this case stories and legends, so that they do not fall into oblivion. They are recorded in this way in the form of comics as a medium that is loved by the young and the slightly older.", said the director of the Vodnjan Tourist Board, Morena Smoljan Makragić

She added that in cooperation with domestic and international renowned cartoonists and illustrators, stories that were passed down from generation to generation were presented.

"Two years ago, we received the Simply the best award in the Promotion and Propaganda category for Vodnjanske storijice. The project turned out to be very successful, and we decided to make a sequel with the same team.", states Smoljan Makragić.

Vodnjan stories, the first and second parts, have been translated into Italian, English and German and serve as promotional material for the Vodnjan region with the aim of reaching young people and encouraging the reader to research the destination and characters from the comics.

The scenarios for the comic were prepared and designed by Vjeran Juhas, and the drawings were made by Fran Strukan (Jovane, it's time), Vili Paoletić (Over the wire), Enis Čišić (The devil from the bowels of the earth), Aleksa Gajić (Aquaticism), Vjeran Juhas (L´ funnel) and Vibor Juhas (Hunchbacked Lord).

"What I would like to single out in particular for Vodnjan stories 2 is that we wrote the last story in the Bumba dialect, dyaleto bòumbaro, that is, an Istro-Romance or Istrio dialect of neo-Latin origin. It is a speech that you can sometimes hear only in Vodnjan.", reveals the director of TZ Vodnjan.

He emphasizes that translations are included so that everyone can understand the story. In the tourist community, they are proud of the project and are glad that Vodnjan's storijice are traveling around the world.

Video mapping projection of Luca

After the presentation of the new comic on Friday, a video mapping projection of Luca was held.

Given that the streets of Vodnjan were first illuminated by public lighting in 1899, Luce is dedicated to the industrialist, visionary and artist Pietro Marchesi. He was considered a pioneer of mechanical production machines with which he equipped his mills, oil mills, fish factory, vinegar and pasta factory.

He introduced the first machines for threshing and grinding grains powered by steam and the press for olives, for the operation of which he used electricity in 1883. He did not agree with the fascist dictatorship and was in disgrace until his death.

"On Zagrebački trg there is a lantern dedicated to him, so we chose this square as the location of the video mapping. We indirectly wanted to tell another story, this time about Pietro Marchesi.", say the Vodnjan tourist board.

In honor of him and his many merits, on Friday Vodnjan shone through the play of light and video mapping projections in collaboration with the wizards of light from Visualia. A new video mapping was created, the screenings of which were held at intervals from 21 p.m. to midnight, and visitors could also view last year's mapping dedicated to the first Vodnjan stories.

The small square of Forno Grande was the 'auxiliary' venue of the Luce project, where Groovoteka was in charge of good music, and full glasses of craft beer and wine and street food snacks were provided by Pula na biri, Medea winery and Danijela tavern.

Along Forno Grande Street, visitors could enjoy mounted light and interactive installations that came to the fore on the ground and building facades after the city lights went out.
