Split-Dalmatia Film Office presented: Film tourism extends the season and creates new jobs

A few years ago, Croatia profiled itself as an ideal destination for film tourism, in accordance with which the number of visitors and overnight stays is growing in parallel. Domestic as well as foreign filmmakers and producers are increasingly attracted by the excellent production value of locations and sets, and many of them are located in the Split-Dalmatia County. 

Geographical diversity, beautiful nature, rich architecture and cultural heritage from different historical periods make this part of Croatia one of the most desirable and suitable places for creating breathtaking film shots, the Split-Dalmatia County announced.

Promotion of film locations

In order to attract an even greater number of film and other audiovisual productions and to promote film locations in domestic and foreign production circles, a project was presented Split-Dalmatia Film Office (SDFU) by the Split-Dalmatia County, more specifically the Administrative Department for Tourism and Maritime Affairs. 

Matea Dorčić, head of the Administrative Department for Tourism and Maritime Affairs, pointed out that the goal of the SDFU is the promotion of the Split-Dalmatia County and logistical assistance to productions, but also that film tourism has many more far-reaching benefits - it can certainly extend the season, open new businesses and jobs.

Networking

The SDŽ film office supports the development of film projects at the local level by creating conditions for the activities of film authors who live and work in the county, as well as the realization of film projects whose action is related to the cities in the county, their history, culture or depiction of the current situation. 

"In this way, we not only promote our county as an excellent film backdrop, but also network various entities and attract numerous tourists. We are very proud that numerous productions choose our county for filming. This is already a wonderful success for us, and we look forward to every future project", said Dorčić.

The office is authorized to research, find and present potential film locations, logistics for domestic and foreign productions, obtaining filming permits, as well as networking production crews, film workers, local restaurateurs and hoteliers, and communication with local self-government units. 

Game of Thrones, Mamma Mia, Ibiza...

They carry out their projects in cooperation with the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Values ​​in the Split-Dalmatia County - Sea and karst. Netflix, ABC, Hulu are just some of the popular production companies that have been charmed by the beauty of the Split-Dalmatia County. On the pages of the SDFU, you can find a number of projects that have already been filmed in the county. 

Among the most famous is, of course, the series 'Game of Thrones' which was filmed in the area of ​​Split, Kaštela, Klis and Žrnovnica or the film 'Mamma Mia 2' recorded on the island of Vis and Komiža. Netflix movies are also worth mentioning.Ibiza' and 'The Weekend Away', who chose the city of Split as the filming location. 

Recognized potentials

If you just need inspiration for the upcoming film, you can search the coast, islands and hinterland of the Split-Dalmatia County on the pages and find a place for your new set. 

From Zagora, through the Split Riviera and all the way to the island, you can explore diversity that these locations provide - from geolocation to architecture, heritage and natural beauty. Search for palaces, fortresses, nature parks and other perfect locations for filming, and when you find them - all you have to do is send a request.

All filmed projects are proof that the domestic and international film scene has recognized the potential offered by this region, and now there is the Split-Dalmatia Film Office, which will certainly facilitate and speed up the realization of new projects.
