Martina Bienenfeld elected as a member of the World Committee for Ethics in Tourism

At the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held in October, Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb (TZGZ), Martina Bienenfeld was elected as a member World Committee on Tourism Ethics - World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE), for the period 2023 - 2027.

Founded in 2003, WCTE is an independent and impartial body under the umbrella of UNWTO, the United Nations specialized agency responsible for promoting responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. The WCTE is responsible for promoting and disseminating the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, as well as for evaluating and monitoring the implementation of the principles contained therein.

"Being elected as a member of WCTE represents a great honor and confidence for me. I thank the expert committee for the selection and look forward to cooperation and joint action to create a better future for the tourism industry. Tourism has a significant impact on people, cultures and the environment around the world and our role in ensuring that it develops in a sustainable and ethical manner is of utmost importance. My involvement in this committee will be dedicated to the promotion of the highest ethical standards and innovative solutions and to even better connecting Croatia and Zagreb with the UNWTO, so that together we can contribute to the creation of a responsible and sustainable tourism industry.” she stated Martina Bienenfeld.

For the election of WCTE members, 24 candidates were shortlisted, and four of them were elected for the 2023-2027 mandate.

The committee is composed of a president and eight members and three substitute members, who are elected in their personal capacity, not as government officials or representatives of their countries. As an independent body of the UNWTO General Assembly, the Committee regularly reports directly to the Assembly.
