For the period from January 1 to August 3, 2023, 2.009.076 overnight stays were realized in the area of the Tourist Board of the City of Poreč, i.e. one percent more than in 2022. In the same period, 386.225 arrivals were realized, which represents an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous year.
The most overnight stays were achieved by the traditionally most loyal guests from Germany, who accounted for 27 percent of the total overnight stays, followed by guests from Austria with a share of 20 percent. In third place are tourists from Slovenia with a share of 10 percent. Guests from Croatia took the high fourth place, with a share of 6 percent of the total overnight stays, followed by tourists from Italy, who achieved a share of 6 percent.
Looking at the months, the most overnight stays were realized in June and July. The increase in overnight stays compared to the previous year was recorded in January, February and May.
Tendency of shorter stays
In recent years, Poreč has recorded a constant increase in tourist overnight stays in the pre- and post-season periods, while during the main season tourist traffic is stable and without major fluctuations, with the standard peak pressure in July and August. This brings us ever closer to the goal of creating sustainable year-round tourism, announced the Tourist Board of the City of Poreč.
The average length of stay of guests in the destination is 5 days. In recent years, the habits of tourists in terms of length of stay have changed significantly. Longer stays in the destination (10 to 14 days) are increasingly replaced by shorter stays (3 to 5 days). Tourists like to explore several destinations at once, and this is primarily the reason for the decrease in the average length of stay of guests. Of course, an important role in this reduction is also played by weekend trips, which occupy an increasing share of the tourist market.
Hotel accommodation leads the way
According to the type of accommodation, from the beginning of the year until August 3, the most overnight stays were realized in hotel accommodation with an increase of 3 percent compared to 2022, followed by household facilities, where 3 percent fewer overnight stays were realized compared to last year. There were 4 percent fewer overnight stays in camps, while non-commercial accommodation, i.e. vacation homes and apartments, recorded a 10 percent increase in overnight stays.
According to the organization of arrival, in the considered period, 52 percent of guests came through travel agencies, while 48 percent arrived at the destination individually.
A handful of different programs and events, promotion on the main broadcast markets, positioning of programs in the pre- and post-season, large investments and constant investment in infrastructure are just some of the reasons why Poreč has been ranked among the top 5 tourist destinations in Croatia for years.
