In recent years, the Zagreb County Tourist Board has been very active in the application and implementation of EU projects, which resulted in the application and positive evaluation of the new EU project of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, funded by Horizon Europe.

The KNOWING project will last for 48 months and will start on June 1, 2022. The objectives of the project are to develop a modeling framework to help understand and quantify the interactions between climate change impacts and risks, mitigation measures and adaptation strategies, assess the relationship between public and private adaptation and mitigation strategies, and identify ways to mitigate climate change with optimized combinations of interventions. in different sectors.

In conclusion, the project addresses one of the key dimensions of sustainable development, and that is the environmental dimension. The total value of the project is 6.579.574,00 EUR. The Zagreb County Tourist Board is participating in the project with 19 other partners, with the aim of establishing sustainable tourism, preserving the climate and social transformation in the Zagreb County.

Of course, the Zagreb County Tourist Board pointed out, it is not an easy and simple job, it includes continuous monitoring of all potential tenders for co-financing from various programs related to tourism, continuous monitoring of trends in tourism in general, analysis of tourism in Zagreb County and generating project ideas for potential improvement and, no less important, these activities to be successful require continuous cooperation and communication with a large number of potential project partners throughout the European Union and beyond.

Currently, the Zagreb County Tourist Board is implementing two projects co-financed by the EU. The first is the PRONACUL project, which emphasizes the idea of promoting and preserving natural and cultural heritage and supporting the development of a transnational strategy for the joint promotion of the Adriatic-Ionian region as a tourist destination. PRONACUL is funded under the INTERREG UK Adriatic-Ionian Transnational Cooperation Program 2014-2020 and lasts until September 2022. The total value of the project is 1.770 EUR, and in addition to the leading partner, there are 348,98 partners in the project, including the Zagreb County Tourist Board, and 11 associated and supporting partners.

The second project under implementation is the BISTRA ECOMMUSEUM, co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund through the Integrated Territorial Investment Mechanism in the Zagreb Urban Agglomeration. The beneficiary of the project is the Municipality of Bistra, and the partner in the project, along with the Zagreb County Tourist Board, is the Association Ekomuzej Bistra. The aim of the project is the renovation and reconstruction of the old school building in Poljanica Bistranska and its conversion into a modern and well-equipped cultural and tourist center. The use of part of the renovated building for purposes related to the promotion of the Municipality of Bistra as a tourist destination, as well as the establishment of a tourist information center, will improve the tourist attractiveness of this area for visitors. Total value of the project: HRK 11.979.148,74, and the project lasts until September 1, 2023.

Proud of the new success and the new project, the Zagreb County Tourist Board continues its activities in the application and implementation of international EU co-financed projects. The competition is fierce despite rigorous criteria and sometimes despite a positively evaluated project application, the project is rejected because the allocated funds are spent. Thus, some projects are currently in the preparation phase, and some project applications are in the process of evaluation, and the results are eagerly awaited.

Sharing knowledge, best practices with relevant partners from other EU countries, as well as national, regional and local partners is crucial for activities to strengthen the destination brand, say the Zagreb County Tourist Board.
