The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia (MUP) has published the entire procedure for obtaining visas for digital nomads.

Temporary residence of digital nomads may be granted for a period of up to one year in accordance with Article 69 of this Act. According to the official definition digital nomad is a third-country national who is employed or performs work through communication technology for a company or his own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia and does not perform work or provide services to employers in the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

An announcement is currently pending online electronic application submission systems for digital nomads, but before that the Ministry of the Interior announced the procedure for obtaining visas for digital nomads.

MIA: Temporary residence for the purpose of staying digital nomads 

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY RESIDENCE

The application shall be submitted to the competent authority depending on whether the third-country national needs it visa for entry into the Republic of Croatia or not. Information on the visa system can be found here.

REQUIRED VISA TO ENTER THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA:

NO VISA REQUIRED TO ENTER THE CROATIA:

  • the application is submitted either in diplomatic mission / consular office of the Republic of Croatia or in the competent police administration or police station by place of residence (list of PU / PP can be found here or contact the relevant PU / PP for further information on the application for epidemiological measures due to the COVID-19 virus epidemic). 

REQUEST AND DOCUMENTATION

A copy of the documentation must be submitted in Croatian or English.

1. fill in Form 1a (bilingual form available here) and attach to the request:
2. a copy of a valid travel document (the validity period of the travel document must be three months longer than the period of validity of the intended stay)
3. proof of health insurance (travel or private health insurance must cover the territory of the Republic of Croatia),
4. proof of purpose (employment contract or other document proving that it is a matter of performing work through communication technology for a foreign employer or one's own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia), ie

  • a statement by the employer or third-country national (as proof that the radio is doing business through communication technology) and
  • a contract of employment or performance of work for a foreign employer or
  • a copy of the registration of his own company and proof that he performs the specified tasks through his own company

5. proof of means of subsistence during his stay in the Republic of Croatia.

It is admitted as evidence bank statement or proof of regular inflow of funds. Pursuant to the Decree on the Method of Calculation and Amount of Maintenance Allowances for Third-Country Nationals in the Republic of Croatia (Official Gazette 14/21), which entered into force on 13 February 2021, a third-country national regulating temporary residence for the purpose of residence digital nomads must have funds in the amount ofat least 2,5 average monthly net salaries paid for the previous year based on officially published data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, and for each further family member or life or informal life partner, the amount is increased by an additional 10% of the average monthly net paid salary.

In this moment the amount of required funds on a monthly basis is a minimum of HRK 16.142,5, or if is intended period of stay in the Republic of Croatia 12 months, it is necessary to prove that you have funds in the amount minimum of HRK 193.710,00.

6.dproof that he has not been convicted of criminal offenses from the home country or the country in which he resided for more than a year immediately before his arrival in the Republic of Croatia. Information on the need for legalization of documents can be found here.

7. state the address in the Republic of Croatia
When submitting the application, it will be required to state the address of the stay or intended stay in the Republic of Croatia on the form. This is important for the purpose of determining the locally competent PU / PP that will deal with the request. If the first application is submitted and the person does not have an address in the Republic of Croatia, it is possible to state the temporary address (hostel / hotel if the reservation is booked / confirmed) as the address of the intended stay.

AFTER DELIVERY OF THE NOTICE OF APPROVED TEMPORARY RESIDENCE

REQUIRED VISA TO ENTER THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA:

Once you have been notified that temporary residence has been granted, it is necessary to re-apply to the DM / KU for an obtained or biometric residence permit (please inform yourself in advance about this possibility at the DM / KU) or a visa to enter the Republic of Croatia.

NO VISA REQUIRED TO ENTER THE CROATIA: 

The third-country national does not take the above steps and may enter the Republic of Croatia in accordance with the provisions of Of the Aliens Act.

NOTE: A third-country national is obliged to register his / her residence in the PU / PP within 30 days from the approval of the temporary stay or the issuance of a visa, so that his / her temporary residence would not be terminated.

ON ARRIVAL IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA - REGISTRATION OF RESIDENCE AND ISSUANCE OF BIOMETRIC RESIDENCE PERMIT

REGISTRATION OF RESIDENCE

The third-country national is obliged to register his / her residence and residential address within the deadline of 3 days from the entry into the Republic of Croatia in the competent PU / PP according to the place of residence.
The application is made on form 8a (can be found here) with the attachment of the lease agreement or a statement of the property owner or title deed.

ISSUANCE OF BIOMETRIC RESIDENCE PERMIT

Third-country nationals who do not need a visa to enter, as well as those who entered the Republic of Croatia on the basis of a visa, are obliged to obtain residence permit - biometric document (obligatory to enclose photos and provide biometric data) upon immediate arrival at the PU / PP.

COSTS 

If the application is submitted to DM / KU - it is paid at the time of application

  • HRK 420,00 for temporary residence permit and
  • HRK 460,00 for a visa or
  • HRK 310,00 for the biometric residence permit form (check the possibility of obtaining it in DM / KU). 

If the application is submitted to the PU / PP - it is paid after the approved stay

  • HRK 350,00 for temporary residence permit and
  • HRK 70,00 administrative fee for issuing a biometric residence permit and HRK 240,00 for the biometric residence permit form. 

PAYMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE FEE IF THE REQUEST IS SUBMITTED IN PU / PP-VIA INTERNET

ADMINISTRATIVE FEE FOR TEMPORARY STAY

Via internet banking, payment of administrative fees for issuing temporary residence (350 kuna) will be executed for the benefit of the State Budget, on the IBAN of the State Budget HR1210010051863000160, model HR64, reference number: 5002-713-OIB (enter the OIB of the third-country national for whom the administrative fee is paid).

For those who do not have an assigned OIB, the reference number reads: 5002-713-number of the valid travel document.

(IMPORTANT: a maximum of 10 numbers, and if the number code initially contains zeros (0), they are not entered. Letter marks, slashes, periods, commas, etc. are NOT entered either.
For example, the number of the travel document / identity card of a foreign citizen is AZ004586, then the reference number is: 5002-713-4586 (without letters and zeros, maximum ten numbers).

BIOMETRIC RESIDENCE PERMIT FEE

Via Internet banking, payment of a fee in the amount of HRK 240 for the preparation of a biometric residence permit will be executed for the benefit of the State Budget, on the IBAN of the State Budget HR1210010051863000160, model HR65, reference number: 7005-485-OIB (enter the OIB of the third-country national for whom the payment is made).
For those who have not been assigned an OIB, reference number reads: 7005-485-RKP-case number.

Through Internet banking, payment of an administrative fee in the amount of HRK 70 for the preparation of a biometric residence permit will be executed in favor of the State Budget, on the IBAN of the State Budget HR1210010051863000160, MODEL HR64, CALL NUMBER: 5002-713-OIB.
For those who do not have an OIB call the number reads: 5002-713-number of valid travel document.

(IMPORTANT: a maximum of 10 numbers, and if the number code initially contains zeros (0), they are not entered. Letter marks, slashes, periods, commas, etc. are NOT entered either.

A digital nomad who has been granted a temporary stay in the Republic of Croatia members of the immediate family may join in the Republic of Croatia (v. temporary residence for the purpose of family reunification here).
