Međimurje is once again in the center of attention of speedway fans from all over the world

The speedway race "Boll FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Croatia" was presented in the "VIP hall" of the Milenium speedway stadium in Donji Kraljevac. Race director Darija Pavlic and wild card driver Matej Žagar, director of the Međimurje Tourist Board Rudi Grula, representative of the Croatian Tourist Board Dubravko Šimenc and prefect of Međimurje County Matija Posavec presented this great sports project to the public, media and partners.

"We spent a full 19 years at this stadium, held more than seventy world and European championship races. I am glad that Matej Žagar, our "wild card" who drove here and at the opening of the stadium, is also here for the third year. to the Croatian Grand Prix race as a driver with an invitation", she said Daria Pavlic, president of SK Milenium and race director.

"We already know a lot of this because this is the third year with Discovery Sports Events as a promoter, but this is still an extremely demanding organization, not only for our club, which has over 250 volunteers, but also for the municipality of Donji Kraljevec, Međimurje and the region. the project was recognized and co-financed by the Croatian Tourist Board, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Međimurje Tourist Board, the municipality of Donji Kraljevec, and we thank them for that. This region is living a special story that day, the speedway is living, and over 7000 spectators will watch the race live. We proudly send a picture Međimurje and Croatia to the world, which is watched by 10 million viewers on small screens."

Matej Žagar is well known to our audience as he has been driving here since the very opening of the stadium when the national team championships of Croatia, Slovenia and Austria were held. Former rivals on the track, but always good friends, Jurica Pavlic and Matej Žagar left behind numerous races and victories at the Millennium, and Žagar especially remembers the two Grand Prix Challenges he won in 2019 and 2020. He was in the permanent lineup of the SGP championship for a total of 11 years, while his best result was fifth place in the world standings in 2014. 

"Thank you to Daria for inviting me not only to be a Wild Card driver, but also to be part of the announcement of this new story. Sport is important for tourism, one cannot exist without the other. The stadium is magical, not only because of sport, but also because of the fact that was built out of love for sport, for creation and without that, there would be no sport. Once again I want to say how happy I am to drive here, I received the invitation two days after my birthday, I confirmed it immediately and I am looking forward to the audience, fans and the race. I expect a lot of Slovenian visitors and I'm sure it will be a nice evening in Međimurje", He said Matej Žagar, the driver who will wear number 16 in the race.

The first reserve will be the Slovenian driver Matic Ivačič, who drives for the speedway club Lendava, and the second reserve will be the German Marius Hillebrand, driver of the Landshut club.

The program at the Milenium Stadium will be designed for the whole family, especially the youngest members. A fun "Fan Zone" awaits you, where drivers will sign autographs and take photos with fans, animators will paint children's faces, and you can enjoy inflatables and watch a motorcycle exhibition. Games and quizzes and a Monster energy zone with a DJ have been prepared. This year, the children will be entertained by the SGP mascot "Speedy", and admission for children up to 12 years old is free in all stands except the main one.

"We are happy that we have the opportunity for an event like this to have the opportunity to show the world a picture from Međimurje, that people will experience our wonderful household, but also that this has already become a Međimurje tradition, but also a tradition of the whole of Croatia.", He said Dubravko Šimenc.

A sold-out stadium with 7000 spectators is expected, for whom a magnificent fireworks display has been prepared at the end of the race, which will celebrate the three best drivers.
