The Easter holidays heralded a great start to the main tourist season

According to eVisitor data, more than one million overnight stays have already been achieved in the previous part of April

The system data show that the tourist season in Croatia is in full swing eVistor, i.e. tourist traffic achieved in the current part of the year and in the current part of April, and the positive trends are also indicated by the results achieved during the extended Easter weekend. Namely, from January 1 until yesterday, it was realized in Croatia 1,3 million arrivals i 3,6 million overnight stays which compared to the same period last year represents a growth of 35% in arrivals i 28% in overnight stays, that is, the above represents growth from 6% in arrivals i 19% in overnight stays compared to the same period of the record year 2019.

"The results and trends so far indicate that this year Croatian tourism will exceed the tourist traffic achieved in the record year 2019. The announcements of the partners for the main season are excellent, the satisfaction with the reservations is also confirmed by Croatian tourism entities, and intensive promotional activities are underway at foreign markets in order to meet the main part of the season as fully prepared as possible. Croatia must base its further growth and development on strengthening traffic in the periods before and after the season, and the results achieved during the first four months of this year show that we are on the right track in positioning our country as a high-quality, attractive and sustainable year-round destinations", he said Kristjan Staničić, director of the Croatian Tourist Board. 

In the current part of the year, the most overnight stays were realized in Istria, Kvarner and Split-Dalmatia County, and in terms of destinations Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Split and Poreč. The most overnight stays were made by guests from the markets of Croatia (1.049.509), Germany (406.325), Austria (315.535), Slovenia (290.851), BiH (201.078) and Italy (151.316).

Great trends in April

In addition to the annual level, excellent trends in tourist traffic were also recorded during the previous part of April, in which approx 330.000 arrivals and over million overnight stays. The above in relation to last April represents a growth of 54% in arrivals i 66% in overnight stays, while compared to April 2019, the above represents a growth of 26% in arrivals i 50% in overnight stays.

"We are satisfied with the results we have recorded since the beginning of the year, which show that Croatia is increasingly recognized as a high-quality tourist destination outside the summer months, which is extremely important to us in the context of the development of year-round tourism. Croatia's entry into the Schengen area and eurozone, making us an even closer and more accessible destination. We are happy that in the first part of April, in which we achieved 50% more overnight stays compared to the same period in 2019, we are also recording the best tourism results so far from our broadcasting markets such as Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Italy. This news is an excellent introduction to the months ahead, and we continue to strengthen Croatia's visibility on all broadcast markets with a special focus on the development of sustainable tourism.", said the Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac.

At the same time, the largest influx of tourists in April was recorded during extended Easter weekend when in the period from April 7 to 10 in Croatia over 180.000 arrivals and more than 578.000 nights. During Easter, guests from the markets of Germany, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Slovakia spent the most overnight stays, while the destinations with the most guests during the extended weekend were Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Poreč, Zagreb, Split, Zadar and Opatija.
