The Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac presented today in the Croatian Parliament the Draft Law on Tourism, the first umbrella law on tourism in the Republic of Croatia.

The proposed Law on Tourism regulates the tourism system, management of tourism development in the direction of sustainability, sustainability assurance, data collection, monitoring and analysis system, destination management system, sector-specific system of encouraging, monitoring and analyzing investments in tourism.

"The aim of this Act is to ensure the assumptions for the management of tourism development in the direction of sustainability - related to the use and tourism valorization of space, natural, social and economic resources, cultural heritage and the improvement of the living conditions of the local population and the stay of tourists in the destination., said Minister Brnjac during the presentation.

All relevant stakeholders, from representatives of professional associations, representatives of the academic community, to representatives of cities, municipalities and counties, were involved in the drafting of the Law on Tourism.

"The Tourism Act is the crown of the reform of tourism management, and it was drafted keeping in mind the specificities of Croatian tourism as a whole, its uneven development and its seasonality, as well as the functioning of the system of tourist boards and the powers of local and regional self-government,", explained Brnjac.

This Act is scheduled to enter into force at the beginning of 2024.

"This law provides a systematic response to the problems pointed out in recent years by the scientific and business community, as well as by some prefects and mayors. Some have called for bans, but we believe that in a situation of uneven tourism development like this, it is neither meaningful nor wise to introduce them at the national level. The Law on Tourism prescribes for all destinations the management of tourism development in the direction of sustainability, that is, the introduction of order in destinations that are already overloaded and the smart development of destinations that are just on the rise. Ultimately, it enables systematic management, as opposed to the elements we have witnessed so far", concluded Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac.
